Competition Iron Giant Streetability?

I am about to get a SBC DD 3850lb 12 FB so I can sled pull a little more. However I do dirive on the street a lot so I was wondering if the "Iron Giant" would be any worse to drive on the street? If I am going to spend the money I don't want to wish I would have gotten the "Iron Giant" later. I don't mind a heavy pedal. I have driven a few semis that needed both feet on the clutch sometimes! :-laf Any info and opinions would help, thanks.

Besides a stiffer pedal, (not unbearable)the IG engaged smoother than any other DD I have driven. Its been so long since I've had a normal single disc, I can't really compare driveability there.



I just took the IG out, to have Peter go over it. I'm wishing I hadn't now, it is really in nice shape after a season of 4500 rpm launches at the track. That is a notable change over the ones I used to have which needed totally repucked and a new center disc every year.

Well, if you consider me assuming everybody on the face of the planet knows my great feats already, so theres no sense in mentioning it again, yes my head is shrinking.



BTW, the proper term is, " DHRA/DieselPower Sled pulling Series Street Diesel 2005 Champion. "



Will we see a JR truck at the top this year? Oo.

Smokin_Monster, I daily drive my Iron Giant and have no problems with it. Pedal is heavier than stock, and the clutch is grabbier than stock, but I found it very easy to get used to. Additionally, I have driven one other brand of dd clutch on the street (a 'street puller' type), and it's not as refined as the Iron Giant, despite that the IG will hold a lot more power and more slip-launches than that one.

So there's probably not much "drivability" difference between the 3850lb and 4200 lb clutch? The street diving I do is mostly freeway not much stoplight driving.

Get the 4200 if your going to be running crazy rpm's.

From 3850 it can't get much worse :-laf :-laf

I have also driven said truck before, and compared to my 3850 plate load DD its not that bad. Only noticeable difference is the "hold it" pressure of the clutch pedal. The initial depressing of the clutch pedal isn't any different, its just when you gotta hold that sucker to the floor for any length of time. :{ :-laf A little difficult for my skrony 155lb butt.
