I pulled out of my driveway and was headed up the street at about 1/4 throttle then the truck quit pulling. I gave it more pedal but the RPM's didn't do a thing. I pumped the peadl a few times and it came back to life and ran like normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Jeff

was there any white/blue smoke? drop in fuel pressure?

might have been a sign of the dreaded "dead pedal" (death of your VP-44)

Code it out and let us know what it reads (key ON-ACC 3 times ending with "on)

this happened to my dads 01 and i believe he said that he had to replace the cam sensor and it fixed the problem. give that a try and i think it sould solve your problem.

with the cam pos sensor the tach will drop out too. They (CPS) dont go bad very often at all either. sounds more like VP44 problems. mine started out doing this and progressed into doing it at highway speeds if i let off and tried to speed up again. a few weeks later i finally got a code pointing to a VP44 failure.

My VP is only 3yrs old with maybe 40,000 miles on it. It has always had a fresh lift pump and a pusher pump. THe Fuel pressure NEVER drops below 15psi.

Devan, did yours throw a code even thought the check engine light never comes on?

This thing runs and pulls hard, won't they feel a bit weak (like a Powerstroke) when the pump is going out?

Thanks for all the input, I'll have the codes checked today at lunch.

Should be against the law for Auto Zone to have a code retreiver. They cause ligitimate mech's many problems. Customer comes to us with a printout from AZ and we have to convince them they have a different problem. You need to be able to communicate with the scanner rather than jump to the code definitions only.

My 2 cents worth.

Here are my codes:

P0122 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Signal Voltage Too Low

P0216 - Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure

P0622 - Alternator Field Improper Switching

P1693 - DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM

Do any of these point to the VP44? What do these mean? Please Help!

0216 is not good. try pulling the APPS plug and greasing it first. how are your batteries? did you load test them? low voltage and/or bad grounding can interfere with the PCM and ECM's.

BTW; 3yrs old/40K is no guarantee of anything. heat, and poor fuel quality have alot to do with life span too.

Sounds like the vp44 is going out and the apps. I had dead pedal few months back. it would come and go just would throw a 1693 code. Found a Used apps and installed Then i got the and P0122 code. But the stock apps back in and just threw a 1693 but still got dead pedal. Everyone said my VP44 was going out but never got a code. I ended up changing the $52. 00 Map Sensor and that was the problem. So that could also be a porblem for you. Laters

I did get a code. looks like you may have both problems injector pump and apps. sometimes they can save codes under pending codes that don't turn the check engine light on. might try to look there.
