to solve another problem, after trying sundry other things, my diesel service bunch are replacing the injection pump. Now I hope this goes many more miles. I said, while you're removed a couple of things, do you know aboaut the KDP and would you like to fix it. They said they're very aware of the KDP and have fixed in lots of times--by removing the pin entirely. They said it's only a locator for assembly etc and serves no purpose after original manufacture. Is this right? They're going to be working on it today. I've read the archives and I'm thinking I'd prefer to have that puppy loctited and/or "peened" or tabbed. Advice greatly appreciated.

Oops. Ignore this question. I have talked with Cummins direct and they said to leave the pin in. I got back with the shop and an older mechanic there said absolutely. Leave it in. They'll loctite it, peen it, and loctite and torque all the bolts. Then I'll relax about this issue. If they can now protect me from drivers who have no clue what that little armature on the left of the steering wheel is (why do so many other cars have a light blinking when they make turns Madge?) I'll be fine.

Yup, left turn blinking... only for 7 miles... yup. Not too bad.

Finally pass and realize the driver does have a head. Madge is sleeping... or is she ?????  Way to go Jeb, you dog you!!

Ok. Still sleeping Madge? Good.

Only happens with Fords. :-laf

Yup. Go back to sleep Madge. I know where I'm going.

Positive OUtcome Re Hard Starting

If any here had a hand in your advice to me re my hard startingi problem, I posted on earlier here's an update. We finally replaced and tried everything advised and no fix, so finally broke down and had Bosch rebuild my injector pump and had a good shop replace it. Wow. I feel like a blind man who can now see. :--) It starts, cold or hot in a fraction of a second, and literally appears to have twice as much power, and I liked it before. I hope the fuel mileage goes up as well. So, in some cases, without seeing smoke, without any drop off in performance (that I could notice, because I've only had the truck two months) and without any drop in mileage, with only a bit of trouble starting, only when warm, your fuel injector may be shot. (In my case they assume it was on the way out. ) By the way my shop also did an "overhead" meaning adjusting valves etc. Thanks again to any who had advice earlier. I'm assuming now that this 213K motor is good for another 213 k. It certainly drives like it. Driving home I carefullly let out the clutch to turn left, and didn't give it that much power, and it took me a moment to figure out what was happening, but it was spinning the wheels on dry pavement.
