I have been thinking of this for some time now. And after my Fathers' car was stolen 2 weeks ago, I am really thinking harder now. We work in a pretty rough area of town. His car has been broken in to twice and now stolen.

I would like to set up a kill switch, and have it hidden somewhere in the cab. I would like to set it up to not even a allow the engine to crank. Something that I can just flip the switch as I get out of the truck in the morning. I'm not sure if this is even possible, or how involved it might be ??

TIA

kill switch

check out tha lastest issue of TDR, there is a short article about kill switchs with reference to other ariticles on the subj and photo's. I've been thinking about it too, seeings how diesels are the big thig to steal in our county these days.

Having an auto, it looks like the easiest way is to install a switch inline with the clutch switch jumper under the dash. The above mentioned article explains where this is.

One question that I have for others that have installed a switch off of the clutch jumper is how small of a switch can you install ;Ie rating? also what size wire do u use?

it seems like a quick and easy project.

thanks

I read the article in the Mag. that you refered to, and I think I would like to do the clutch engage jumper wire ( I have an auto ) kill switch. I think I would be more comfortable cutting that wire than anything on the ECM. I also need to come up with a good hiding place for my switch, one that is also easily accesible when I exit the truck.

This might be a dumb question but, when the switch is in the off position on the clutch jumper wire, will the engine turn over at all ??

Thanks for telling me about the article, I hadn't even opened my latest Mag. yet. Been real busy at work lately.

Seat frame, door post under lower hinge, or get really sneaky under lower door hinge routed through the door elec conduit.

Just about any size switch will work.

NO! Similar to turning the key, while in gear without depressing clutch. Silence. .

Would a good hiding place be.............

Maybe inside of one of those little catchall places(cubby holes) or whatever they are called, in the dash. You could have a rocker switch mounted in the top side of one of them holes, where they would not be visible. Maybe even recessed into the top of it. Just a thought.

Wire size?

What about wire gauage for the wiring? Should I just match what ever the gauage is for the jumper wire? Is there an amp/volt rating for a switch or is it low enough that any switch would work?

Thanks
