Truck has been starting funny the last 3 weeks. It acted like I goosed the throttle right as the engine caught. I started checking to make sure my foot wasn't near the peddle. I ran it up to 3,000 RPM the other day with the VA box and the Hot 3 Edge box on kill, and that's just what it did. It dropped to an idle after I shifted, then died. Loosened the injector lines at the head and they just dribbled. Hooked jumpers to the pump and nothing but a click. Good flow from the lift pump.
I have always had fuel pressure gauges before and after the filter. 112,000 on the original VP44 isn't great, but better than a lot of people with these older version pumps. John at Cumminsstuff.com was very helpful, there have been 5 revisions on the pump since mine. My build date was 2/1999. I am hoping that they continue to address the issues with these pumps, which seems likely now that John Deere is using them.
