Truck has been starting funny the last 3 weeks. It acted like I goosed the throttle right as the engine caught. I started checking to make sure my foot wasn't near the peddle. I ran it up to 3,000 RPM the other day with the VA box and the Hot 3 Edge box on kill, and that's just what it did. It dropped to an idle after I shifted, then died. Loosened the injector lines at the head and they just dribbled. Hooked jumpers to the pump and nothing but a click. Good flow from the lift pump.

I have always had fuel pressure gauges before and after the filter. 112,000 on the original VP44 isn't great, but better than a lot of people with these older version pumps. John at Cumminsstuff.com was very helpful, there have been 5 revisions on the pump since mine. My build date was 2/1999. I am hoping that they continue to address the issues with these pumps, which seems likely now that John Deere is using them.

from what i have heard 98. 5s have lots of v44 problems with the comps' and etc. i have a 99 w/ a build date of 8/99, i am hoping that everything will be good when i put my comp on, i have heard mixed but most positive, keeping my fingers crossed, sorry to hear about your badluck. .

got 2 early 24v here that we just put comp boxes on. low miles with the boxes. hope they don't kill the pumps. 98. 5 w/ 170k and 99 w/ 107k. so far so good.

The new pump is $950 less $100, when you return the core. I have had 275 injectors and the VA box since the truck had 10,000 miles on it. I seldom turned on the Edge box, and then only for short runs, but I'm sure it was hard on the pump with 2 boxes stacked, plus the "Hot 3" Edge box had the extra high fueling level on #3. The newer versions of the pump are obviously more reliable. There are still failures, but not near as many as the early ones.

Bigger injectors make power without stressing the pump, but it is nice to be able to turn the box off.

Get the Hot Rod pump!! Extra power before the injectors or the box. There are several places to purchase at prices much less than we hear being talked about.

I praise my VP44 everyday -for putting up with my antics. :D ;) 94,700 and counting.

I have to agree with Chip and Wade here too. If you think about it, even with injectors your asking the VP to alter several things from what it was set up to do. This changes and or decreases the duty cycle. I talk real nice to mine and give it all the Power Service it wants. :D
