Lamp Out Light - Rear bumper lights out

Hello,

My lamp out light came on today, and after walking around the truck to see what light was out; I found that both lights that shine onto the license plate on the rear bumper are out. Does anyone know what fuse to check and has anyone found that the connector is the source of the problem? I have not towed any trailers, or had any work done recently. I did however recently back into a snow bank ever so slightly with the driver’s side rear of the bumper (1~2 mph max). With 81K miles... I do not really want to go pay 100 deductable with my max care warranty if a fuse, electrical contact cleaner, and or dielectric grease would solve the problem. Thanks in advance for any replies or suggestions.

The bulbs are good?

If so, then the relevant fuse is number 34 for the left lamp, 32 for the right (why in the world are they on different fuses!?).

well... since both lights are out and each light is on a different fuse... i am thinking it is the connector itself

Lamp Out Indicator Lamp-On Message -

Each time the cluster receives a lamp out indicator

lamp-on message from the FCM indicating that an

inoperative headlamp (low or high beam), turn signal

lamp, or brake lamp (excluding Center High

Mounted Stop Lamp [CHMSL]) circuit has been

detected, the lamp out indicator is illuminated. The

indicator remains illuminated until the cluster

receives a lamp out indicator lamp-off message from

the FCM or until the ignition switch is turned to the

Off position, whichever occurs first.

² Actuator Test - Each time the cluster is put

through the actuator test, the lamp out indicator will

be turned on, then off again during the VFD portion

of the test to confirm the functionality of the VFD

and the cluster control circuitry.

The FCM monitors each of the headlamp, turn signal

lamp, and brake lamp (except CHMSL) circuits to

determine the condition of these exterior lamps. The

FCM then sends the proper lamp out indicator

lamp-on and lamp-off messages to the instrument

cluster. For further diagnosis of the lamp out indicator

or the instrument cluster circuitry that controls

the indicator.

I don't think they are.

Seems like I have one or the other license plate lamp out most of the time, and it never trips the indicator. I think they are thinking tail lamps.

Those lights have been out on my truck for over three years now. They are not part of the lamp out system.

Rockjeep, in some states, and I don't know about Kalifornia, but having the plate lights out is an open invitation for any officer to pull you over at night. Might think about fixing those bulbs

How can they even see my plate through all the black smoke. :-laf Been pulled over for them before. I get out and pretend to wiggle the connector and say damn there was a recall for this and its been to the dealer three times for it. Then he usually says to take it back and get it fixed. The best part is when he is looking right at my plate and it doesn't even say california any more. There is a video camera mounted in my plate and right in the middle of california.

Your plate would get you all kinds of grief in Texas. The cool camera would be one reason. The other reason would be the license plate holder that covers up part of the plate. Got a kick out of seeing that California still issues registration stickers to be placed on the license plate. Hasn't been that way in Texas for years. Now we stick them on our windshield, just above or below our inspection sticker. Funny thing is, in the almost 4 years I've owned the truck I have yet to stick a registration sticker on the windshield. I fork over the money for them, but just leave them on the registration paperwork. Some cops have never even checked for the sticker. It's been mentioned to me by a couple of cops over the years, but I always say I was going to clean the windshield before I put the new one on but I forgot.



By the way, you've got guts putting your license plate out there for the world to see like that. Give me Photoshop, some card stock, a color laser printer and an hour later I have me a getaway car with a good diversionary plate on it. But of course, that would be wrong...

Put the fear of God into you, didn't I? Security stuff is always the first thing I notice. Can't be too careful in what you display to the entire world these days...

okay... so I did some more checking, and I found that the drivers side brake light is out, the rear bumper lights are out, the running lights over the rear of the cab (CHMSL) are out, and finally I have condensation building up in the rear passenger side reverse light... now I have to figure out if any or all of this is covered by the max care warranty that runs out in 4k miles... . I seem to remember... that "everything electrical is covered" time to put it to the test...

Most cops just use that for a drunk driver or a nuisance ... ... ... ... ... . just an excuse.

Why did you scratch out the numbers? Are they invisible going down the road? More people see your plate in one day going down the road, than will ever see it here!
