Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Lift Pump

Does anyone know if the P 7100 can contune to run without the lift pump? Reason I'm asking is I was working on a truck and broke into the fuel system and then the truck wouldn't restart. The lift pump was completely dead. Just can't believe the pump died after shutting down the engine in my shop. .

It will run without one but not very well. Starting will be almost impossible. The check valves in the pump are usually what fails. You can check their condition after removing the pump but the parts aren't availible to replace them.

The check valves must have been the trouble as the springs were very weak. I was wondering if they could be rebuilt.
