Oh just let the water out the fuel filter, then lost prime:eek:. Pumped lift pump, opened small banjo (#10 wrench) screw above filter, bled number one, and two injectors, got 'er fired up. However, the idle is higher now. What the heck did I do:confused: I have never lost prime, even when I change fuel filters... Thanks in advance for your your knowledge and experience. With the expertise of TDR I got 'er going in a short time. THANKS a million Folks! ! ! :D

You lost prime by allowing fuel to run out of the fuel filter?

What exactly did you do? Drain out a bit of fuel from the filter and then attempt to start the engine?

I have never done this but you are supposed to do it with then engine shut down. Are you supposed to have to prime the system with the lift pump lever after draining the fuel/water?

If you lost only a small amount of fuel it SHOULD fire right up and run ok.

Did you drain all the fuel from the filter?

Isn't there a small "auto" bleeder between the filter and the inj. pump, or in the pump that will get rid of minor amounts of air?

I have an eletric transfer pump that will fill the filter. Doubt i get all the air out even with that, but never had to bleed it.

I usually change the filter pretty often. Never really got any water from the drain. Mine sits alot and some smart people have posted that the filter has a shelf life not related to use, as much as time.

I don't have drain valves on either of my trucks and I never drain any water from the bottom of any of the fuel filters in the fleet of school buses, ever.

Yes, there is a bleeder screw. I believe he opened that up to expel air. Don't know why he lost the prime unless too much fuel was drawn off.

Probably gelled diesel I suppose :-laf

Fast idle problem now...

Please read original post. The only problem is a fast idle now. I did pump the pedal to try to start. Could I have broke something to make it idle fast. To answere Greenleaf's questions: Yes, I think I drained the filter dry... Not cold enough in So. CA to get gelled:-laf

that was what I was thinking - could be something got jammed up in the linkage - sure doesn't take much for the idle to change, barely any movement will definitely be noticable. Maybe check the linkage to see if there is a hard part misaligned or a frayed throttle cable?? Might not be a fuel issue at all.

Case in point - I have the rad fans on a manual switch in the RC, and just the other day I went to turn the fans on and at that very moment a heater hose fitting broke sending antifreeze everywhere and making a huge steam cloud under the hood - at first I thought it was electrical smoke... until I smelled the cloud:{. Point is, one problem may occur at the same moment another is cured - yours may have nothing to do with fuel.

Resolved: high idle...

Madmaxx you were right on;) I had used 1"x2" weather strip pieces so wires, hoses, pipes will not rub. One piece had flown up into the throttle return spring, disconnected spring and was pierced in the weather strip piece#@$%! Cleaned up mess, (with the help of my Brides hand) holding the throttle linkage open, re-attached spring, all is well:-laf What are the odds:confused:

Thanks to all the replies and input, (I used one of the VE pump posted graphics the make sure where the spring attached):D

I think Greenleaf was trying to get someone from NY to agree on the gelled fuel. The whole state is "gelled", especially around Syracuse.

As far as info goes, He's like a human encyclopedia of first gen info.

Hard to resist pumping the pedal.

I'm going to be in Rome towards the end of the month on business again... For some reason I can never get AVIS to rent me a CTD... ... . :{ I guess I'll have to make due with the Hyundai Sonata again...

JLEONARD I'll remember 'details' on next posting, hopefully they will not be "dumb stuff that I do myself"...

Jgolden: pumping the pedal does not work with a CTD, bleeding an injector does, duh... . This club is fantastic!
