There is a trucking company here is Vegas that has a trailer almost just like that. It's always fun to watch it turn corners because it takes 2 people to operate the rig, the truck driver and the trailer operator on the tail end of the trailer.

See em' all the time.

Never get "tired" of checking them out. Although a good portion of the road I use most is limited to two lanes, it is a major route for oversized loads. They get hung up now and then too. I remember one that was like a big box 210 feet long (just the cargo) got snagged. The ones using a "pusher" truck to get up the hills are neat too.

big... ! when they were building the hwy 407 here in markham, they had mini versions of that type of trailer for transporting the bridge beams. buddy would hop out of the cab, and run to the trailer to control it around the sharp bends, and then lock up the steering and run back. . what was real neat was that the rear steer trailer was only like 15-20' long. they just used the beam as the trailer body & there was a little trailer at the tractor end too. . i think the beams were in the ±100' range.

I seen one. . and I wish I had got a poster of it. I went to the Ag show that we have every year here in the central valley(Tulare Ca. . same place that we have the Diesel Showdown) and there was a booth with a poster of a monster of a low boy. I have never seen so many tires on a trailer in my life. It seemed like this trailer went on for days. One picture showed 1 maybe 2 tractors in the back and 1 in front. This was a work of art... .

I do tech stuff for people involved with this stuff. I've seen units like this one in person... the load lowers down to the level of the tires. It's self propelled, 8 tires across, and EVERY tire can be individually steered (by computer). There are certain units with a cab in front of the bed (below the bed level) or you can drive them by remote-control. They come in ~20 ft modules and you can hook as many of them together (wide and across) as you want. Some of the houston boys may have seen these being hauled on trailers, the American arm of this company is Davenport-Mammoet.

I recognized that skid under the beam. They were used for a 350 ton move at my plant. The company was davenport mammoet. Thier logo is a loaded down elephant. Those guys said the 350 ton steam generator was "baby stuff" compared to some of the jobs. OBTW when it rained we found out only some of the wheels are driven. It is neat to see a 350 ton steam generator on a skid skidding up a steel plate (solid rubber tires)

Yes, Mammoet International and Dave Davenport & Sons came to some agreement. . i don't know if mammoet bought shares or an interest in dd and sons or what, but about 5-6 years ago they changed names to davenport-mammoet. Davenport gets to use the cool mammoet equipment and mammoet get's davenport's name recognition (they are a top notch outfit).
