Here I am

Fuel additive

Wow - Black Silica - THE Breakthrough in Solar....

I have found LSD B20 to quiet the engine down quite a bit but power is down noticeably, and fuel mileage is down a good 50 miles per tank. If I am thinking with my right foot and my wallet, this stuff is not worth it at all. If I am thinking with my brain, I am still not sure a lubed up engine and saving the world is worth what will add up to a lot of extra money out of my pocket.

:-laf That's what I have been saying for years

The only reason I've ever burned Bio was because I was home brewing it, and it is a LOT cheaper to run than Petro Diesel. If I had to purchase it, and it costs even 1 cent more to buy it, I'd be burning regular fuel. The only reason that Bio is more expensive than regular diesel is that people are willing to pay the higher price to burn an alternative fuel... to be green.

If you think the big oil companies are robbing you, and they probably are, the Bio companies are doing it even worse. As the cost of petroleum products has risen, so has the cost of everything else, but not to the extent that Bio has risen.

JD, I think you've made the right decision.

JD, I'm no expert, but from what I've learned the sweet spot for using biodiesel and making power is b20. You get the benefits of increased lubrication combined with using mostly ulsd and power goes up. I'm not sure where you're getting it at, but in a recent study I read about on a different forum, fuel stations that have been sampled range from b5 to b74 in their 'b20' biodiesel. Chances are you got more bio than you thought.

I brew my own fuel, so there is a savings, even though I get less mpg on b100 than ulsd.

I've run different mixes, from B5 to B100. I definitely got worse mileage on B100, but the truck was smoother and quieter, closer to the way it runs on VO. I thought it performed the best on B20. I can't remember what the exact mileage numbers were, but they certainly weren't any worse than on dino. It had all the power of dino, but ran smoother.
