What's it worth???

Cut Tire

~1,250,000

Think it is a 96 3500, 2 wheel drive. Saw it in the bay at Salem Or. Dodge dealer. Always serviced there by the same mechanic... . changes oil by hour schedule. Motor never opened. Hardly any paint on the front from rock chips.

When my Dad was selling Intl. trucks he used to stop by the Cummins shop to pick up parts, etc. from time to time. On more than one occasion he saw a first-gen there that was being serviced with over 1M on the odo. There were several of them being used by a RV delivery company in the area. That was a couple of years ago, but who knows... 2M may become a reality!?:--)

I met a guy a few years back with over a million on his 2nd gen who used it to haul rodeo bulls all over the country. Body looked like a bull had gotten after it but it sounded good. He said he knew of couple other guys in the business with over a million.

I shouldn't ask, but has anyone got stories on a 1,000,000 24 valve? True, it would have to be almost 700 miles per day for 4 years, so maybe a better question is, highest mile 24V anyone knows of?

"Get a life"??

It was intended to maybe raise a little laughter among those of us who have had problems with the lift pump. I dont doubt the capabilities of the 24V engine. Its good to see your engine (and accessories) has given you good service. I like my life very much thank you.

I am amazed this ebay truck didn't have any engine repairs. Thats quite a feat for about any kind of road vehicle.

I was going to say there aren't enough lift pumps made to get a 24 valve to a million but didn't want another life. ;)

I know I'm almost 30 but I sure hope I dont have to start takin midol this soon. I still watch cartoons... when theres nothing else on.

I thought you were just a kiddin... and I was just playin too. I still am :D

Actually TxDieselKid, I am very interested in this thread. My big selling point on the Cummins was the dream of super high miles. I have had gassers go 200,000 without any kind of rebuilds (Inline 6 Ford Truck which I still own and drive) so the Cummins inline 6 was my natural progression into diesels. 30% less moving parts was the ad. But that may have been for the 12V.

The 24V is a little more complicated. But are there really any reasons why the 24V cant produce the same miles? I personally dont think there should be any problems with a 24V doing this... with proper maintenance of couse. Are there any reasons or differences anyone sees that should prevent 1 million? I'm curious. Would it be the electronics? Or the cyl head??

One Million Mile Cummins

Back on subject: Andrew, thanks for posting this info. It helps re-inforce the soundness of our decision to purchase a CTD. Dodge is not all that bad eithier.

I got 178,000 now on my 2001 so I am working on it :D

The *only* thing that has broke so far has been the HY35 turbo, a bearing started protesting @ 176,000

103,000 on 2001

I've passed 103,000 miles on my '01, and the only problems I've had were 2 lift pumps. 3rd one down to 8 lbs. at cruise, fuel filter changed recently, so just think it is wearing down, or doesn't like the colder weather. Original tires wentt 75,000 miles, and I may put them back on next summer. Milage for 103,000 is 18 - low of 12 pulling 25' gooseneck with side kit, and tarped load. Load seemed insignificant - side kit pulls like an anchor.

I either have to plan on running this a looooong time, or trade before '04. I'm not enthused about EGR. Wish we could buy a "glider kit" like the OTR truck companies offered - new cab, front end, and frame. Bolt your engine, transmission, and rear end on.

Current odometer reading

I emailed the seller to get the exact mileage, and at the moment it is 999,800. 2

It'll be fun for whoever buys it to watch to roll it over :D
