How come there are no diesels in the Big Bad Monster Trucks??????? Are they to heavy, or not sexy enough for the crowd or won't they do the job as well?????
hammersley, I've thought of that too, but I think there are a couple reasons our CTDs would not work as well in this application.
Monster trucks use some pretty souped up big blocks with blowers and what not and are probably in the 500+HP range. With the way they drive their trucks they need very quick throttle response and wouldn't want something that they'd have to wait to get spooled up.
Another thing is many events are held inside a closed stadium, and as you know a CTD making 500hp or more makes a bit of smoke. Somehow I don't think that would go over too well
Yeah, I was gonna say that too... . most of the monster trucks are running big `ole gassers with blowers and race gas.....
With the gearing that they use... . they need high HP and high RPM and don't have time to wait the few seconds for the turbo(s) to spool... .
Didn't Grave Digger use to run a Detoit Diesel?? I swear that our good friend Dennis Anderson used to be a diesel brother of ours... . This was back when there was only a few monster trucks and they really didn't race 'em... they just ran over stuff and put on a good show... .
If my memory is correct, a guy named Jeff Dane ran a 6 cyl Continental Diesel in "King Kong" back in the early 80's. He was running exotic gassers like a SOHC Ford 427, but they kept breaking. I think he got his Diesel out of a military 6X6. This was back in the hey-day of monster trucks.
