2001 Quad w/230k been running good up to recently then MPG dropped in half no leaks seems to have good power except at higher rpms 2k +, anyone have same problem and what did you do to correct?

The VP44 can cause your mileage to go south as the timing part of it stops working correctly. If you rev your truck up in neutral and hold the rpm at 2k or more, does your truck maintain the rpm smoothly or does it kinda have a miss? Mine had a miss with this test when my VP started dieing.

Try cleaning/testing your IAT sensor, this can also affect mileage some.

Have you checked the airfilter?

What happens after 2k rpm power wise? Could be lots of things.

Held rpms at 2k in neutral tack needle deflected forward about 20 rpms felt like a slight pulse. Air filter is clean and I am not certain what IAT sensor is. Truck does not have the usual zip when accelerating on e-way almost feels like turbo is not working, but I can still hear the usual turbo pitch when it engages.

Might be the waste Gate

Mine was acting kind of sluggish and getting a serge at cruise rpms turned out to be a combination of stuck open waste gate and bad APPS replaced the APPS and freed up the waste gate with an end wrench. now the truck runs nice and smooth and peppy again.

Have you checked for codes? Key on/off,on/off on/off then leave on ,do not start engine. codes should appear in the odometer window. write them down and check on site for list of codes. Hope this helps.

Waste Gate froze, unable to free up tried soaking with WD 40 and applied heat still will not move. Also checked dash pot that operates waste gate for movement seems to be froze also. Thinking nx step is to remove turbo assembly?

For the ease of working on it I would say yes. Seems like a geat opportunity for an upgrade:-laf. Shouldn't be hard to fix or replace the wastegate actuator and is a great time to check the whole turbo out. Good Luck.
