great mileage... i average about 16. 3mpg in my 04 6speed 3. 73 with 99% city stop/go driving

If I drive my work commute, which is 50/50 heavy city/highway, I can average around 17-18 mpg... but that's 2-4-6 shifts, driving posted speed limits...

And don't get me wrong, these are slightly high for what I normally see... I typically only see 20mpg average highway, which is still not bad for 4. 10 rears. I just thought it was wild getting 25+ for a couple tanks across IL/WI/MN/ND... you can see where it dropped when I got into MT. BTW, it was a very nice trip, MT/WA are beautiful.

I posted this to show a 600CTD can get 20+ mpg consistently... I see these guys posting 10-12 mpg with a truck similar to mine, and know full well there is something not right.

Fuel Mileage ??? Come on and tell the truth

You guys that have 4:10s and say you are getting 20 MPG... ... ... .

Lets get real !!!!!!! Share the truth , don't s-t-r-e-t-c-h it.

My crappy mileage on this past weekend's trip to Washington... 4. 10s, 6 speed, and a 600CTD. The mods are 155000 miles, rokktech sensor, dynatrac hubs, and a straight through exhaust.

359. 2 miles - 15. 927 gallons - 22. 5

218. 7 miles - 12. 635 gallons - 17. 3 (stuck in traffic a few hours)

276. 0 miles - 12. 838 gallons - 21. 4

377. 3 miles - 14. 68 gallons - 25. 7

362. 7 miles - 13. 773 gallons - 26. 3

412. 2 miles - 20. 058 gallons - 20. 5

232. 2 miles - 11. 497 gallons - 20. 1

I still haven't gotten this last tank, but it pulled three passes here... still should be 20mpg... oh, and these are consistent fills, I can fill to the same level using my auxiliary tank.

Should I trade it? :p

Rub in why don't you
:D

Do you have any gauges?

You stop to fill up often. But looks like a trip average of 21. 48. . yeah probably should sell it.

I mostly commute with my truck: '03, QC, Long bed, 4X4, 6Spd, 3. 73, 8200lbs. The route is 30miles each way with a 2500' evelation change. Speed limit varies from 30mph in town(about 8 miles) to 55mph out on the state roads. In the last year I have travelled 12947. 2 miles(using GPS) and used 554. 1 gal; for an average of 23. 37 MPG. If I travell out on the interstate(65-70mph) my milage drops to 21. 2 MPG, when I am hauling the slide-in or towing I drop to about 17. 5MPG. My milage also drops about 2MPG in the winter when I run my 285 AT tires vs the stock 265 Michelins.

That's great mileage steved. The best I have done with my 05 DRW, 3. 73 is 19 mpg on the Interstate at 65 mph. With the 5er in tow, the mileage drops to 10 mpg at 60 mph. My 95 DRW, 4. 10 was a little better.

Do you go in and correct the errors on the track? GPS's will jump on you, I have had many miles added to a trip based on position jump, the best way is to go look at the speed for a point and if its higher than normal, up to 1K mph, then its a gps jump and depending on the speed the jump could easily add many miles over a 13K year. Also when they sit still turned on they move around and they count all that movement as trip data, the most my truck has ever moved is about 13 miles overnight :D

I have had the GPS "jump" a couple of times, but it is rare. GPS is usually within 10 miles of the trip odometer(out of 800-900miles per tank) when I have the stock tires installed.

Just got back from delivering a 28' travel trailer with my 03. Total of 992 miles - half towing/half empty. Used 57. 3 gallons for an average of 17. 3 mpg. I drove about 62 mph each way.

Routinely get 23 to 24 mpg running empty with my 4. 10's at 65 mph. When I bump it up to 70 mph fuel mileage drops to 21 to 22 mpg. Don't do enough around town driving to know what I get!

Ummm, how do you fake numbers?

These are actual hand-calculated values, not overhead readings. I have the receipts to prove it...

Yeah, I have a granatelli monitor...

I stop often because the bladder dictates it... and lately my back has been bothering me...

When I tow my flatbed (18foot, 2400#s), mileage doesn't seem to change. If I tow my 5vr (25foot, 4500#s), mileage drops to around 16mpg.

Finally, a guy who is honestly telling his mileage.
I know 10 guys who have these trucks from 03s to 07s, 2500s and 3500s, standard, quad, mega, both auto, and 5600, g56 all agree as they read these mileage theads that you guys all must tell great fishing stories.

I'd like to see an average fuel mileage number for most 3. 73 equipped truck... I'll bet most of them can't get hand-calculated numbers close to mine.

Hey Steve, I beleave your numbers. I mean average 60 MPH, all highway driving over a long distance, those numbers are right on par.

My truck will get 22-23 MPG (summer time) driving 55 MPH on a routine trip of two slow downs for towns and 2 more slow downs for corners on a 150 mile trip with 20 miles of in town driving included in that 150 miles. I always fill at the same station, at the same pump, facing the same direction, and I have a modified fuel vent so I can fill to the brim each time.

Now if I drive 65 MPH over that same course I average 18-19 MPG, summer time.

Winter decreases MPG 1-2 depending on temperature and wind.

To the na sayers, I use to be a nay sayer too.

If you slow down, drive up to speed slowly, and don't try out run or even keep up with everyone you too can have better fuel mileage.

Speed kills in more than one way.

DING! DING! DING!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Everyone should try driving 55mph one single time... its hard, but it works.

And to all those that think I'm making this mileage up, keep thinking that... I'll still be getting those actual numbers at the pump. It amazes me that people think you can fake hand calc'd numbers... you fill up, divide the number of miles driven from the last fill up point to this fill up point with the total gallons used, and viola! Miles per gallons. Just because you can't get those numbers, doesn't mean no one can.
