I am now completely confused about which way to go in buying a NV4500. I have called a couple of places that sell them, and it only makes it worse.

So here goes, whats best ?

Fully splined main shaft vs 5th gear nut fix, or both ?

New NV4500 vs Rebuilt vs takeout ?

Send in my working Getrag as a core vs sell outright ?

And for those who have already done the conversion, was it worth it ?

Last but not least WHO has the best conversion kit for a 1st gen. and the BEST SERVICE ?

and if any of you out there are venders and you like give me a bid for a NV4500 conversion, e-mail me at -- email address removed --.

www.enterpriseengine.com down by Columbus, Ohio. Did you try them?

Personlly, I would rather have a rebuild from Dave Mitchell, with a fully splined shaft and the Nut fix, a HD 1"3/8 input shaft, and a roller pilot bearing, than a NEW one from Dodge!!!

Their service is tops.

I would bet you could get more money selling outright, than a core, maybe????

you could talk to Van at JVD engineering

he has made his way through more than a few NV4500's over the years.

I recommend the fully splined shaft, and used may be a lot cheaper, especially since a new one should be disassembled and the new mainshaft discarded in favor of the fully splined one. did you call 1-800-std-tran yet? They could probably take your Getrag in trade as they rebuild them too. They could offer advice, but I don't know if they offer a bellhousing. The NV4500 will take the old clutch and flywheel (1. 25" x 10 spline input); be sure to get the diesel/V10 HD version of the NV4500. 1994-7 uses a shifter that plugs into the top of the aluminum tower, 98-up has a shifter that bolts to the top--see pictures a few issues ago in TDR in my article on the NV4500. If you use the old clutch, take about 1/16" off the end of the front bearing retainer so it won't hit the end of the disk hub.

Nancy Simerly told me that they love the 4500 in their first gen--they did the swap a few months ago. She will be at May Madness; helps with registration every year.

If you go to enterprise and get the larger input shaft, you better bring your wallet. The last time I heard it was about 1800 bucks.

This is before paying for the fully splined mainshaft, the transmission, etc.

Going with Genes combo you could spend over 4 grand easily. The first gen engine is not making enough HP to worry about the larger input shaft.

Standard transmission did mine about 6 months ago and I run 400HP through it daily. No problems since the rebuild. They have rebuilt thousands of NV4500's and know whats gong on and do a quality job.

$1800??????????????? Holy Cow! Who told you that??

Don, you must be using Joe's spys!

Once again, they are wayyyyyyy off!

Sheesh!

Eventually, most hi power guys end up at Mitchell's to fix things right. Or try to copy what they are doing.

TRACK PROVEN parts.

If you want something average, by all means, go anywhere you want to!

After ywo years and lost $$$$$$, I know where to go.

Joes spies? what spies? You are funny to say the least. Did you fall down today?

Maybe the shaft alone is not 1800. It was reported to me that the price was close to 1800 bucks, maybe that was installed. The first gen engine does not need a larger input shaft. The fully splined mainshaft was developed by Standard Transmission.

Why did you install the larger input shaft? You dont have enough HP to break the stocker do you?

Kyle send me your address and I will send you the books I got from advanced adapters on the differant verson of the nv4500 and their converson kits they seemed to help me out a lot on what to get I f you do the shaft swap bring it down I gust did mine last week its not bad at all shaft goes for around $265 with a new 5th gear and nut you will have around $350 cont rember off hand exactly what I paid for it George

Don,

I have seen 4500 input shafts twisted on a 24 valve, with a box.

That shaft is too itty bitty for a stock engine.

I would rather spend the money now, in hopes I will have enogh power someday to rip a shaft in half, than to save a few bucks, and risk taking out the flywheel, clutch, bellhousing etc. At a later date.

First gens make 300+ hp easy on the east coast.

You should not post prices when you don't have the facts.

Spies, ah yes, we call them the Mitchell Spies, the ones that insist Dave has only 400 hp, His wifes clutch failed, people who report his prices wrong, he runs nitrous, blah, blah.

Basically, the guys who are 5 years and 500 horsepower behind Ohio. But keep telling customers they don't know what they are doing.

If ya can't beat him, bash him, seems to be the motto.

Gene,

how much is the dern input shaft? You have seen the twisted shafts on pulling trucks. Not the same stuff.

Don~

I thought after the Carl deal, we were not allowed to post prices?

Not my place to post prices anyway, I don't sell them.

I just post what has worked for me, people can do their own price checking, and shopping around.

And, they can make up their own minds at whether their truck needs better parts, sled pulling or not.

Gene

How close am I at 1800 bucks installed or otherwise? A percentage of how close would not posting a price.
