Lowering my truck

Antlers up without a trailer give me a very bad view in the mirrors.
I aim them always to see at least the rear corner of my truck on it as a fixed point of view.
With the ducks rear of a Dually no prob, a skinny SRW big problem.

I have zero issues with the mirrors down on my DRW. I can see fine, no need to make the truck even wider with no trailer.

There’s nothing like any of these trucks running down the road in “wide and big” mode and then can’t keep their lane. It’s very annoying.

I don't run mine up ever just because of the wicked vibration that I get in the glass making them basically useless. I have checked torques on all bolts and have the tow mirror support as my truck came with them I just upgraded to aftermarket Power fold style and I think that is where my problem lies.

I also don't pull massively Large trailers like most of you do so I don't really need the mirrors up.

I also make sure to use the EB and TH with my ghost trailer.

j/k, tow mirrors up and no trailer/slide in is one of the dumbest looking things on the road, IMO.

I think this is more about preferences than issues. My niece owns my former 03 2500 with towing mirrors out up and I mentioned it to her. She nicely and correctly told me it's her truck and that's how she likes to drive with them.

A point of courtesy though, every time I park and even when parked in my shop, I close my mirrors. I checked the motorized ones at $1,800, and decided I can live with closing and opening by hand.

Cheers, Ron

I did not realize those were not standard on a cab and chassis Laramie truck.

It’s both. The issue to me is when someone can’t keep their truck in their lane to begin with and they have their mirrors on maximum width mode towing their ghost trailers. Preferences aside, I couldn’t care less if you like to drive around with your mirrors out, in, folded, missing, or whatever, it’s your ride, your truck. It has zero bearing on me, right?

I personally think it looks goofy as well, but I support anyone’s ability and reasoning to do what they want with their vehicle as long as it doesn’t intrude on my safety or anyone else’s. If you like pink polka dots on your ride, go for it. ;)

I’ve seen several cases around here where a mirror was whacked by another oncoming vehicle due to the inability to maintain lane control. I’m very conscious where I am in my lane, and so should others if they choose to operate a large vehicle.

I’m not trying to be abrasive or anything, not at all. It’s great to be able to share opinions and discuss these things. You learn all kinds of things about others that way. Heck, you may learn something really cool.

I doubt the folks who can't keep their trucks in their lane is the result of either having their towing mirrors in or out. I agree on a SRW they look dorky, but I'm thinking folks that can't keep in thier lane are more likely they bought too much truck and/or are distracted drivers. Just having a discussion here too and you make good points.

They may be standard now, but not on mine. My wifes doesn't have towing mirrors. but I close em when we park anyway.

Probably the difference in PU and CC. They were standard on dads ‘17 Big Horn PU.

Mirrors are fine up or down. The PROBLEM is the spot with mirror up is oriented properly giving the widest view. Tip the spot vertical with mirror down it’s near useless IMHO.

2nd and 3rd gen spots work the same up or down.

The spots are adjustable on my truck, so they can be properly oriented for any position or driver. Once I have them set they don't need any adjusting for up or down thou.

I like mine up, but then again 90% of the time I am pulling a trailer.
As for lane keeping my experience shows me that the smaller the car the harder of a time people have staying in their lane.
Happens to me everyday in rush hour that cars going the same direction are over on my lane. When I pull next to them with the truck they do not budge, but once my trailer fender shows up next to them they finally get back in their lane.....

you talking about truck or spots you added?

One thing I DON’T miss from my 3500 DRW is the wide hips. The Cab & Chassis setup gives such a better field of view with a flatbed. My week has been great so far....picked up a restroom trailer in Howe, IN last Friday, stayed at home Saturday, left out Sunday, shut down in St Augustine, FL Sunday night, delivered to Hobe Sound, FL Monday, then picked up this 38+8 toy hauler from Shadow Trailers in Williston, FL Tuesday morning. I then shut down in Oak Grove, KY. I’m currently in Salina, KS tonight.

Toy hauler is going to Kiowa, CO...then I’m picking up another 40’ aluminum gooseneck cattle pot from Merritt Trailers in Henderson, CO.....only 65 miles or so away. It’s then going to Baxley, GA. Working on yet another haul out of south GA for a customer in TN after the Baxley drop. Attached is a cattle pot I hauled for the Baxley customer just before Christmas. I’ve done fairly well connecting the dots with lots of loaded miles this run.....so far.

Picture was taken last night in Oak Grove, KY (I’m currently in Salina, KS).
