I"m back! kind of

Since I already have an Romanian AK-47 SAR-1 with lots of ammo I thought we might try a different platform. Supposed to be allot more accurate, not that the other has any problems hitting the target. This Rock River Arms is supposed to have more accuracy and am easily able to hang accessories on it. With all the adjustability it fits great and has great eye relief on the scope. Took the flash hider off and put on a muzzle break. Should be like shooting a 22. Back up ammo in the shop, most of it is in the house. And another 1,000 that just came in, a deal I couldn't pass up.

I like Rock River. Great quality for price. Wouldn't shoot steel cased Russian stuff if it was given to me though. May or may not work with some guns based on the chamber dimensions and the fact that steel is not as elastic as brass. Will fire dirty. Can cause excess wear in the chamber. Crud in the chamber will normally sink into the brass and be ejected with it. Steel is harder and the stuff wont sink in, ends up trapped in the gun between case and chamber and acts as an abrasive. Berdan primed and made in Russia by people who are probably paid in rotgut wodka. You get what you pay for. Be a shame to ruin the shiny new gun with dirty Russian ammo.

If you shoot that much get you some Winchester brass and an auto press.

Worse than I thought. I didn't know those reds used bi-metal steel bullets. That seems like an obvious no no, but hey, When in Russia.

I have an Arsenal milled AK. Hammer forged "Steyr" barrel....
It's pretty damn accurate for the ammo I use. (wolf)
Much better than I was expecting.

All I use is in my AK and the new RRA's is the Wolf 123 Gr. FMJ. I suppose if I was getting into match shooting I would use a different ammo with brass. I might shoot 2-300 rounds now and I'm done because I take the 30.06, and the hand guns with me when I go over to my range, then they all get cleaned good. So I'm not doing any marathon shooting. The way I shoot like this I doubt I'd see any different results between type of ammo, brass or steel. I must say, years ago, and remains today I was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy this relatively cheap ammo. At 60 now, the gun, the barrel and all the ammo I've acquired over the last 10 years or so will be around in fine operating condition. :) long after I'm gone. I also believe the AR based rife rifle is allot more temperamental to feeding and firing ammo than the AK is by far.

Note: Now putting the Amsoil ("Z-Rod) in my 79 CJ-5 with the 304, that's a whole different animal about wear and tear and what is good for a piece of machinery.

I shoot the cheap stuff regularly. It's no worse than any other on the shelf brass cased ammo I've shot.
