2025 4500/5500

No heat in cab

I have 7~8/32 and got stuck on a light slope of grass yesterday!!... 4-Lo and she walked out, but if it were a 2wd, Id be calling DBM @ AAA.

I got stuck like that several times in my '95 and '98 RWD. Wet grass might as well have been ice. My father used to get a kick out of me calling him to come pull me out of the yard with his old GMC Jimmy. He'd take pics and send to our friends.....

I didn't even ask since they are not a Firestone dealer. What I have found in the past, is, they want them down to the wear bars before they will consider it. Discount tire is more lenient then this shop.

Discount tire now requires the tire to be between 5/32 and 4/32 for the mileage warranty on most tires. I just lost my mileage warranty on my van tires as they were at 3/32" even though they were no where close to the mileage..

at 25k miles my FE seems to be going up alittle, said 20.8 and I hand calculated 19.6, 240ish mile round trip I-40 averaging 75-80.. I cannot complain.

On my 2021 F150 I learned how to go into settings and adjust the lie o meter. I have it really close now. I wish the same would have been available for m 2015 Ram.

My lie-o-meter is always within a couple tenths of a MPG on both my '17 5500 and our "19 1500. I maintain paper log and run manual calculations. More interesting my former '09 Ram 4500 fuel log for over 9 years was 9.62 MPG, most towing 21K lb 5er. My 17 Ram 5500 avg 4 years is 9.64 MPG. I'm not sure why there is a lot of variance other folks experience.

First fillip today on my 22. 17.0 EVIC and 16.7 hand calc, close.

I kept a log on the 05 and 18. The 18 averaged just under 8% high, but varied from a few percent under to as high as 20% off. The 05 was pretty good after I tuned it and dialed in the injectors but still was just under 10% off, and closer to 15-20% stock.

Any idea why? You would think with precise fuel use data and accurate mileage data, it would be close. All I can figure perhaps idling throws it off. Any deeper thoughts or ideas? I'm not that deep into the analysis... I just run and compare numbers. But with 112 gallons, my fillups are extended, wouldn't think that would affect the numbers.

The fuel data isn’t super precise, which is why the error varies with each tank and load.

The fuel used is calculated based on rail pressure and duration, but if the injectors flow more or less than the table is programmed for then the math is off. That’s why some tanks can be accurate and some tanks 15% off, it just depends on how much time you spend in the correct or incorrect parts of the fuel map.

I'm wondering if the C&C's different components and programming make it a little tighter. Upon further thought, there could also be a slight leveling affect with the large quantity of fuel. I'm seeing similar accuracy on our 2020 MH with a 2018 6.7L Cummins, which is also governed at 2600 RPM.

I doubt it, just common variance among trucks. Every truck will be slightly different. Mechanical variances compared to programmed figures.

Error will also change with mileage as the injectors wear and flow different rates.

Id say that the 20' is alot more accurate that the 04 was,. and it seems to be more accurate when using it on the hwy vs stop and go, so like John says it depends on the transient loading and fuel burn, but either way,.. for the power I am happy with the fuel usage.

Made a short round trip today, 223 miles. A lot of mountain ranges so slow roads, 65 mph max, with a lot of 55, plus slower even, like in Salt River Canyon. Display said 21.2, math was 21.03. Stayed out of tow haul except the canyon.

Made the exact same trip today with my empty car hauler down and a small tractor back up, display 12.7, math 11.6, so I guess it varies how you use them.

This poor old couple had no clue until I told them. They were waiting in line at the fuel stop when I drove up. I could tell it was leaning, so when I pulled up again, I drove around to the other side. They said they could change it no problem.

Nick,
How do you like those mirrors? I have the old style flip up mirrors on my 2000 and despise them. When I flip them up, I have to adjust them and the spot mirror is just wrong. I had the Cipa slide out mirrors on my’99 and loved them. Had I known they were unavailable, I’d have changed them out before I sold it.

I have always been ok with them but the ones on my '01 are not wide enough for an 8'.6" box trailer. I think these are because the cab is wider. But yes, the spots are kinda funky.

It's likely that I have fewer variables, such as terrain and climate. We have relatively flat terrain where we drive the most, and we have very little winter. But, for the most, I don't think much about it. I track the data mostly for maintenance documentation and to spot irregularities. From your posts, you have a greater variety of climate and driving conditions. Nome of my vehicles ever had winter diesel as well.

Delivered two 6 yd loads of cinders today. Since I was going past the closed gravel pit, I stopped in and weighed the rig. 5k front, 10420 truck and 26,900 total. The truck weights are probably slightly off as the scale ramp is up hill.
