A buddy just put in the Geno's muffler elimination kit and the EGTs increased dramatically. We both expected them to go down. He also has the TST 230 HP kit. Are we missing something? It seems to run better but the temps are scary. I want to dump my muffler is why I'm asking.

Welcome to the TDR!

Sorry I can't help with your question. It definitely is the opposite of what others have experienced. Maybe the EGT probe is on the blink?

Keep us posted,as I was planning on doing the same thing. Without the muffler and more free flowing exhaust gases, the EGT's should be going down!

Every report I have seen on TDR has the temps running 100 degrees or so less with out the muffler. When you lost your Cat did your temps change?

I'm pretty ignorant on Diesels. Would you explain further? His truck is a dually without the EGR.

What is dramatically? If it only went up a couple hundred degrees, I would let him drive it around a little bit to get used to the new tone of the exhaust. I know that every time I make a performance change to my truck, I can't keep my foot out of it for a while and mileage goes down while exhaust temps go up. I am guessing that after a few days the exhaust temperature will return to normal or lower.

dieselburner,
That is a very good point!

The turbo charger offers enough restriction for the for the engine to run properly.

Thanks guys for your input. His temps jumped about 150 degrees. Seemed like a lot to me. It may have been caused by his lead foot. I am still going for it. I will record my temps before and after and report back. Thanks again.

Let us know how it turns out with your buddy. Also when you do your before and after tests try to do them on the same stretch of road pulling the same load at the same speed with approximately the same outdoor temperature. You get the idea. I have a feeling that the exhaust change will be more noticeable while working the engine hard than just cruising. I have a 4 inch turbo back Jerry Jardine system with the 5 inch tip on the way which I will be reporting on soon. Turns out Jerry is an old friend of my dad's from the drag racing days of the 50's and 60's and guess who's birthday is coming up?! #ad

Will do. Thanks again, I still can not help but think my temps will either drop or remain the same.

I put a GENO'S muffler eliminator on mine 6months ago and haven't noticed any change either way on egt's,altho I don't do much hauling. only result was to have two different strokers ask what I did to make that thing sound like that-I told them they'd have to chop off two cylinders.

When I eliminated the cat and muffler on my 98 the temps went down about 100 degrees or so,,Now with that said I'll also agree to the not being able to release the pressure on the big juice pedal so the are up alot more than down(guess I could get a smaller sneaker that might help,my size 14's don't),,The mods I have done KILL my fuel milage at first due to the old gotta play syndrome we all get afterwards(wife says I get all glary eyed after working on it and she knows whats next),,Only problem with the no cat and muffler he's going to have that I see(fellow Thunder Truck drivers know what I mean) is the right window down during ANY weather, constant burping of the throttle in car washes or tunnels(under bridges too)and driving around with THE BIGGEST S*%# EATING GRIN HE EVER HAD!!!! #ad
