Got a 97 12 valve with 111,000 miles. Had a few minor problems but nothing major. Starter motor recently went south and had to replace along with the lift pump and fuel heater... ... Engine cranks like hell but won't fire until I apply some throttle?????!!!!! Engine stalls often only when cold and also idles very low until some engine temp builds up. Any ideas? I'm thinking injector pump?

You idle is too low. Common problem. Your idle should be at least 750 with the AC on and, if you have an auto trans, it should be in gear. 800 is better.

on mine the idle adjuster had gotten loose so it would change but it slowly was working itself lower, i have a snap on scanner so i could read the rpm with and without ac and set it where i wanted, 750 ac off and 730 ac on is where i set it with my manual transmission and it pops off quickly

Got it, I think!

Just set my idle speed as per your advice to 800 in gear w/ac on and it definietly starts better. No more pedal pushin. I'll find out how well it really works in the morning, it's snowing right now and about 25 above. Wish me luck and thanks for the info!!!

Fired right up this morning with 3" of snow on the hood and no throttle applied, 20 above. Thanks for all the help. Now for the 5" exhaust and new injectors.
