Any suggestions for the following symptoms on my 98 Qcab 12V 5spd;

Recently my truck has developed a clunk when ever I make a right hand turn (and only to the right) and when I accelerate hard or gently there is a soft bump as though something is shifting/moving sidways in the drivetrain (such as a trans mount or engine mount).

I have checked all of the front end components and radius arms and can find nothing loose. I also did a torque check on the engine and trans mounts to see if the engine/transmission were moving due to bad mounts and nothing appears to be.

Since the truck has over 360K kilometers (224K miles) I'm thinking that the engine mounts are due for a change-out anyways(recommendations on a source for new mounts?). But I still am baffled by this clunk and feeling that something is shifting or moving when I accelerate.

Would appreciate any related experiences or suggestions that may help me look for something that I may have missed.

Thanks in advance,

HP

hsmith,

Yes it is a 4X4 and the last check I did about a month ago showed nothing wrong with the track bar, but having said that, it probably wouldn't hurt to check again.

Thanks,

Re-checked the track bar and it was slightly lose/worn but not enough to cause the noise (I did replace it with a new one as it is a MOOG lifetime replacement).

Had the truck on the hoist yesterday and found the problem, its the transmission mount, more specifically the 2 bolts that go from the mount into the transmission. :mad:

Anyone know what the diameter - pitch & length are of these? I will need to upsize the bolts and re-tap the holes as I am confident that the threads will be torn out. #@$%!

Thanks for the input,

I had a clunking in my 2003 and would do it turning or the odd time shifting and it would make a bumping in the drive train. Could not find any thing loose,u-joints all good, t-case good, tie rods good, changed control arm and track bar bushings and bolts and it was time to replaced ball joints, ... got that done and still clunking around corners. after i left the shop putting the new front end in I figured out what it was after i drove a couple hundred yards the truck would just rev but not move... left the truck in gear and looked under the truck... . drive shaft turning but not the wheels. put it in 4x4 and drove it to the dealer got parts and intalled new guts in the rear end... . diff, crown and pinion, bearings, seals and ABS pick up ring, $2800 later it was all good!! haha So im suspecting you might have the same problem I had. The cluthces in the rear end were binding and piled up along with everything inside except the axles were still good. check it soon you may just get away cheaper then i did. Good luck
