Merry xmas all,

Just done installing smarty touch on 2017 3500, yes warranty pucker factor for sure, but I was tired of the dead pedal and with no help coming from dodge it was time to act. I plan on only the 30hp tune and go from there given all the problems with the aisin not being programmable yet so no line pressure change, shift can be slow and may be reason they fail with more aggressive tunes.

Well, installed, reads parameters on the monitor but cant get ECM programmed. Checked wires, reformatted disc and re downloaded latest software with no change. Probably a sign I should not do this :)

Will have to wait now for madelectronics to be back in and respond to my issue. Probably a broken wire or comms mod faulty from the start but we will see.

Will keep all of you posted on whether this does anything for the dead pedal issue. Going to do axle, engine oil and transfer case fluid changes today at 35K just to be insanely safe.

I know the 2008's 6.7L Cummins are not as sophisticated as the 2017 engines are now but I installed a Smarty S67 in 2009, on my truck and have never look back. I know from the start that I was my going to be my own warranty station but from my engineering point of view the Smarty S67 was less harmful to the truck than the stock set up. Before I installed the Smarty I had 5 visits to the dealer for warranty issues and recalls on my truck all with in a year of purchase. This was all do to the stock system and ECM that was installed. After I install the Smarty S67 in Aug 2009, I have had zero issues and the truck + the 68RFE has 123K miles on it now with more miles planned. I am using CaTCHER level 3 which adds 60HP/120ft-lb of torque to the rear differential. I do tow heavy, a Cedar Creek 34RL fifth wheel with my truck.

I had Smarty on 2002 2nd Gen 5.9L, 2003 3rd Gen 5.9L, and 2009 6.7L with great results and customer support.

In 2017, I decided to put the egr and dpf back on the 2009 truck and replace the ME program with the USA program, but couldn't get the USA program to load. I did get the European program to load. I submitted a ticket to Mads requesting help twice, with no response. It worked, although I didn't know the difference between the two programs.

When I purchased my new 2017 5500, i checked the website which only showed compatibility of Mads up to 2016. I requested compatibility info on my 2017 from Mads, and got no answer. I also noted you have to purchase separate cable, comm module, and programmer, and more complex process to load program on truck than in the past. cost for everything was almost twice the cost of the. previous Mads programmers.

I know Mads has or had great products, but I just couldn't get past the before mentioned issues.

Still interested in your experience with customer support, what you did fixing the load, and results.

Best of luck Ron

Jim, can the smarty Delete?

Jim, can the smarty Delete?

It depends on the year. 13+ trucks the Smarty touch will not do the deletes and are CARB compliant. You'd have to go to the raceme for a full delete which is also based on the smarty touch platform. I think, but am not 100% sure they are the same company. But with the new laws regarding deleting no company in the US is allowed to build a tuner supporting deletes. Raceme HQ is located overseas.

X2

Now you can also use EFILive on the Ram trucks. See attached link. https://www.efilive.com/ For monitoring purposes you can use the CTS2 Edge Insight (but not the one Geno's sells) you will also need to make sure that it is compatible to EFILIVE. I would also buy a TBE from say MBRP mufflers in Stainless Steel.

OK, first unit I got didn't communicate with the truck as the underhold wire was compromised. Sent it in and quick turnaround with latest software loaded. Allows for turn signals to blink 3x with one hit (yeah, I know, many cars do this but its nice), adds ability to have fogs on when highs on. First impressions is that it adds power, my main reason for getting this is that I HATE the torque management. I would say I am still messing with 30 and 60hp loads but both remove up to 70% of the lag but its still not as good as my 5.9 with a smarty jr was. I am going to assume that it is the inability to control the slow shifting Aisin transmission and that this will never get to where I ideally would like it unless down the road they crack the ability to program somehow or I rebuild my aisin.

So overall, it is doing ok but its not the complete fix. I only plan on running at the tow mode 90% of the time but I wonder if there is a custom tune out there that could alter the TQ management but maintain stock hp. I would be happy with that.

Now it didn't help that our first good snowfall hit last night, man these trucks suck in the snow. Could also be my 35in toyo upgrades as I don't recall my 5.9 sliding around as much as this truck with 285s. Could be the extra wt or the toyo AT extremes just not that good in snow/slush/ice. So understand I was a little reluctant to do any comparison testing, stock, towing, street to see what I think the reduced throttle lag is.

I am now seeking more info on which gauges to monitor and why. This is a real weak point with Madds as it would be nice if they included a cheat sheet of suggested monitoring PIDs and why for us newbees. I understand they may be developing this. I also am trying to find where the best EGT location is on the stock truck vs just dropping in one by cyl 5 aftermarket but I am having a hard time locating stock sensor info.

Leads me to another point, where can I buy the service manual for this truck. I had the 5.9 manual and it was real handy.

Next idea is to upgrade headlights, looks like HID the best there and the fogs where LED work fine from reading multiple install experiments. The lens shape of the headlight vs LED bulbs is an issue it seems and HID work better from what I have read. I kind of believe that as when I added aftermarket LED to my 5.9 they came in stock lens and sucked, I returned them as they were worse than stock.

brillmtb, Did you check with BrianatSmarty he is on this site! I would think that the Smarty Touch would/have done something with Torque Management in their program! I know that my Smarty S67 allows you to adjust the TQ management in the Smarty programs, which I have done.

I also just installed LED lights on my truck and they work great. I installed LED lights from Lumawerx for my driving lights and the fog lights from Xtreme LED Pro. Both are clock able and need to be adjusted to provide the best light output. I drove home from Milwaukee WI, last night and even my wife noticed the difference in the ability to see better on the road with the LED lights.
