Guys,

My brother has a 98 12 valve, saturday he was going thru town and heard the check engine light ding and he looked down and seen oil pressure dropped but came right back. The truck didnt act like it died, didnt loose power steering or power or nothing. About 10 minutes later he went to the store, came out and it would not start. Crank but no start. He let it set overnight and came back to the store and tried it and it started, ran it over to the mechanic and there were no stored faults. My first suggestion was to lube the selonoid rod and repace the fuel shut off relay. Then he called last night and said that he was backing out of the driveway and the oil pressure drapped again, check engine light flickered but kept running.

My (our ) question is, it that fuel shutoff relay tied into the oil pressure anyway? Does it power the oil pressure sender? Does that mechanical engine have to see oil pressure for it to start? meaning if the sendor is not sensing oil pressure will it keep it from starting?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry

That 12 valve would start if you removed the oil pressure sender and plugged the hole. A new sender usually solves that gauge problem. Available from NAPA, $30 or so.

Crank and no start can be something as simple as a bad connection at the blue wire on the drivers side battery + terminal. Won't cause one to die but will cause a no start.
