Oil Pressure Guages

Where is the best spot to mount the oil pressure and oil temp guages? I will be pulling out the factory sender, so one is taken care of, but what about the other?



Also, what location is best for the oil temp sender? Thanks!

I hope this helps. On my 98 12v I removed the sending unit (after I gave up on them) and found a brass tee at Ace and put that in and put the sender back in and ran a rubber hose (rated to withstand pressure) up to a 100 pound gage (60 pound is not quite enough in winter weather start ups) which I mounted on the dash next to the ash tray. Now when I hear the chimes a quick look at the mechanical gage tells me all is well. A Special socket is available at most auto parts stores that fits over the sender. 6 feet of hose was just right but might not be enough on another truck. It sells by the foot so give yourself some extra.

Sending unit ?

I do not believe that the sending units are made for our diesels. When you turn up the idle the chimes do not go on idling at a stop light unless it is a very hot day. These sending units may work in the gassers. Or at least they did in my Dakota. As far as quality goes that could be an issue. There is some garbage on the market. Standard makes good parts. Stay away from Wells. When you question Auto Zone they say lifetime guarantee. What good is a lifetime guarantee if you have to keep changing the part. Car Quest or NAPA my have higher quality parts. Denso (hope I spelled it right) makes good parts, some of our Rams (diesels) have Denso starters and altinators. My 98 12v does. I don't know if Denso makes sending units I have a Nissan I bought new (1990) with 211K and I like Denso parts and spark plugs for it. I am living in FL (retired) and the Air Boat guys prefer the mechanical oil pressure gages. A lot of them build their own Air Boats and use a variety of engines. One that works really good is the old GM 454 gas engine. Air boating is just too close to the "Gators" to suite me.

On the top of your oil filter housing there is a plug that you can take out, It is by the braided oil line that feeds your turbo, that is where I installed my oil pressure line.

I see the one you are refering to. Is it better to mount the oil temp unit on the filter housing and the pressure sender in the factory area, or the temp sender in the factory location and put the pressure unit in the filter housing? Thanks!

I am not really sure about the oil temp probe, there is not alot of room in the oilfilter housing. The only oil temp probe installations I have seen have been in the oil pan, that way you get a reading of the oil that has just done the work.
