Use something like Stanadyne Performance Formula. Over the long run it will do more than help the ULSD problems. Added cost per gallon is not bad at all. And its designed to be used in high pressure diesel fuel injection systems unlike motor oils and transmission oils.

Actually, mine seems somewhat quieter with ULSD. This is consistent with the higher cetane number that ULSD should provide. From Chevron's website:

Cetane Number:

In general, the processing required to reduce sulfur to 15ppm also reduces the aromatics content resulting in an increase to the cetane number.

Ok at least I'm not alone. I wonder if this is going to do to our engines like unleaded fuel did to the old cars. You know that extra knock can't be good for it.

I agree

ULSD is IMHO an inferior product designed to provide a more mass market appeal to the next generation of diesel owners. The environmentalists will love it, but your bank account wont. Welcome to 1972. It will take some time, but the engineers will get a solution. Unfortunately, for older technology, well... . warm up to the need of fuel additives. The way most politics work these days, when politicians want something to change while not really ******* off the public in the process, they slowly make it unacceptably expensive. They call it "boiling the frog".

First I have heard this, 1010% right on the mark. This goes on where I work, have never heard the term before, but it is perfect... ...

ULSD hasen't seemed to affect our trucks here at work. The station I fill at had been phasing it in in June and was fully ULSD in July. The ISM is still getting 9. 5mpg with no real noticable decrease in power. The MB(well, I don't really like the engine/ecu program anyways) is about the same- Puke and Die but still it returns 7. 5-8mpg average. The ISB in our Ram is real noisy right now, but I know how bad it is after this weekend. Fuel consumption is about the same, but I have noticed a steady drop in response over time.

I knew ULSD was comming in the summer but I wated till today to talk to the station about when the change over happened. It made the "placebo effect" non existent.

Good day all Mine is the same Bad Milage, Nocking, and runs like crap. And the think that makes me mad is less black smoke. I WONT THE OLD STUFF BACK. No But my truck sound like it is sick ever since this new stuff is out I do not like it.

"less black smoke" Think maybe that is why we had No. 2 diesel, LSD, and now ULSD. Next will be NSD. SNOKING

Smoke sucks. When are people going to realize smoke will be the end of this hobby?

Smoke /= power

Keep smoking people and you'll be driving a hybrid soon enough.

I have also noticed more noise / less smoke, but those also go along with the colder weather. If I stand on the go pedal, she still smokes, just not quite so much.

I've been running Power Service in mine just to be safe, but otherwise I am running straight #2, not the winter blend that they sell at the "auto diesel" island or at the smaller stations up here. It has gotten to the point that the only place you can find straight #2 around here between December 1st and April 1st is at the truck stops, which is ok with me.

I do run the winter blend along with Power Service when we are expecting severe cold, but I don't even worry about it until we are expected to see temps colder than -10. I prefer the #2 as my mileage stays up in the 19 MPG range rather than dropping to 17 or so with the winter blends. 19 MPG for this time of year is consistent with what I was getting in previous winters in similar temps.

Time will tell I guess.

I am surprised to hear that your truck stops do not sell winter blend. You sure? What keeps them from gelling? SNOKING

Hmmm..... there's *2* Jordan, MN, one south east of Minneapolis, the other way up north of Duluth.

I generally fill up at a truck stop between Minneapolis and Rochester. It's blended, but only apparently down to 10 degrees F. Stanadyne PF goes in every tank.

Snoking, the truckstops around here typically have three choices: #2, blend, and #1. I stick with the #2 as much as possible for better mileage, better power, and lower cost. It is the other stations that typically have only one choice available for diesel, which is winter blend.

jkalchik, the Jordan that I am in is just SW of the Twin Cities. If I recall correctly the one up north is Jordan township in St. Louis county. Let's see... truckstop between Rochester and Minneapolis..... hmmm... . you aren't referring to the Cannonball are you? The only other truckstop on that stretch is the Pumphouse in Inver Grove Heights.

Usld

I have experienced all of the aforementioned symptons as everyone else and I have been adding 16 oz of "White" bottle powerservice with minimal results.

After reading somewhere here about Marvels Mystery oil, I started adding 8 oz per tank with 16 oz of Powerservice every tank. The acceleration "clatter"

is gone! and my mileage has gone up across the board approx 2MPG.

It took approx 1/2 tank before I could notice the noise was gone.
