One of my employees took one of our company vans out last night and got rear ended in light traffic. Nobody was terrible hurt, looks to be a few hundred in damage to the van and much more to the jack*ss that hit him. Here is the kicker... ... ... ... The bonehead, (who's ethnicity will remain anonymos) had one of those new in dash DVD players with the pop out 5" TFT screen, and was (or supposedly just the passenger) engaged in watching a movie while driving. Now there's a great idea. Lets give people who can't drive worth a sh*t something else to distract them. Simply unbelievable. The Highway Patrol officer finally got him to admit he "might" have been glancing at the screen when he plowed into our van doing 30mph. And ticketed him accordingly. He told Dave (employee) that he personally would like to see these things banished from even being sold, let alone installed. They say you're not allowed to drive with your cell phone in use, and now someone thinks its safe to have a TV in the dash. Great. What's next cruise control while you get to take a nap?? Come on poeple!! Let's wake up and realize how incredibly stupid and moronic this really is!!
Now before I get flamed to the front burner, I see no problem with the rear seat models designed for passengers. But the in Dash models are way too distracting for the driver- no matter what you may think.
The car that hit our van will likely have more than $3k worth of damage, and the passenger (Who was watching the screen) suffered moderate back injuries. It's stupid, foolish and dangerous. LETS BAN EM!!
