Why Do Dogs Do Strange Things?

One of my employees took one of our company vans out last night and got rear ended in light traffic. Nobody was terrible hurt, looks to be a few hundred in damage to the van and much more to the jack*ss that hit him. Here is the kicker... ... ... ... The bonehead, (who's ethnicity will remain anonymos) had one of those new in dash DVD players with the pop out 5" TFT screen, and was (or supposedly just the passenger) engaged in watching a movie while driving. Now there's a great idea. Lets give people who can't drive worth a sh*t something else to distract them. Simply unbelievable. The Highway Patrol officer finally got him to admit he "might" have been glancing at the screen when he plowed into our van doing 30mph. And ticketed him accordingly. He told Dave (employee) that he personally would like to see these things banished from even being sold, let alone installed. They say you're not allowed to drive with your cell phone in use, and now someone thinks its safe to have a TV in the dash. Great. What's next cruise control while you get to take a nap?? Come on poeple!! Let's wake up and realize how incredibly stupid and moronic this really is!!

Now before I get flamed to the front burner, I see no problem with the rear seat models designed for passengers. But the in Dash models are way too distracting for the driver- no matter what you may think.

The car that hit our van will likely have more than $3k worth of damage, and the passenger (Who was watching the screen) suffered moderate back injuries. It's stupid, foolish and dangerous. LETS BAN EM!!

Kev

You got that right!!!

The real problem is stupidity. I'm afraid that if stupidity was against the law a lot of people I know would be doing life in Q.

I don't think they should be banned. Rather, make the PERSON responsible for their stupidity. If that idiot had to pay for half of all damages, it would probably hurt their wallet. Insurance companies keep covering the actions of morons. The main reason I don't wnat them banned is that it will be one more thing that the GOVERNMENT says you can't do. We have enough of that. They already tell us that you WILL get tow airbags in a vehicle, but if a child is injured in the front seat by that airbag... YOU are responsible for that.

I think Joe G. hit the nail on the head... we can't outlaw everything for the stupid people. Cellphones, makeup, newspapers... it would be impossible. Lets just take away the licenses of the ones that cause the problems... eventually, others would get the hint.

these dumb screens are everywhere...

Here in Houston, I see LOTS more cars with these stupid screens then I would like to. At school(Stephen F. Austinin small town Nacogdoches) one time I saw a SUV that had so many, he had his gas tank door open, with a screen on it. I would never have belived it if I had not seen it with my own eyes as he was driving through campus.

I wanted to say "are those dumb things really going to help you pick up chicks, when she see's that you spend more $ on your car then you would probly spend on her?"

Outlawing them may not be the answer, but stupid people are incapable of thinking- errgo the laws involving things like airbags and children, seatbelts, helmets, etc. Personally, I think they should just remove their drivers license. Not that that would stop them from driving. And BTW I just found out the other driver had no insurance- illegal of course (yet he managed to find the money for the in dash toys... ... ... ... ... . hmmm) He called and said he would pay for the damage to the van. He said the first estimate to his car was more than $4500. I told him I hope he's learning from all this. Doubtful.

Kev

What kind of movie were they watching that they had there eyes glued to the screen and not the road?

Maybe they had a camera mounted on the front of the car and wanted to see what a crash looked like.

Doc

There was a jeep in front of me Saturday with what looked like at least a 12" screen under the rear-view mirror. The 3 kids in the jeep were watching TV. I could even see the news program from my truck.

I gave them my vote of disapproval by filling their jeep with smoke!

A friend of mine has one in his Jetta (poor guy;) ) and said that you can't watch a movie or play video games or whatever unless it's in park. He said it's supposed to be wired that way.

Well, whats the use of sitting in your car to watch a movie I could see in the comfort of my own home! Why would you even have one of those darn things in there

Mactruck

I could use one to watch a movie while I'm waiting for Mrs Doc to comeout of the store. I think those car videos are the best thing since prosessed cheese ;)

Doc

I agree that those little screens are stupid, that's why I have a 27" on my passenger seat. I use the seat belt to keep it from hitting the dash when I slam on the brakes. For some reason when I'm watching it I slam on the brakes quite often. I'm thinking of moving the airbag to the passenger side to protect my TV. ;)

illflem - you crack me up - wait till the airbag goes of someday and launches the 27"er. Hopefully it'll land on one of the idiots with the small screen.

Doc

I don't think they should be banned. You just can't do a whole lot about stupidity, other than to hold the possessor of said stupidity accountable. If these things are going to be put into vehicles they ought to be put in such a position as to be out of the view of the driver. The idea behind TV sets in a vehicle revolves around little kids and entertainment for them on a long trip. At least that's how I see it.

I like My DVD player

I bought a Lap top with a DVD player, So I would not have to baby sit the Wife on a long trip!!:D PLEASE DON'T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME!!:( Sometimes I even get to watch. I just set the cruise Control and Put my feet up on the dash open a ice cold can of beer and enjoy the movie!!;)

This post #100 And I would Like to thank all of you who made this possiable:D

I am ok with him watching a movie while drving as long as it is a porno. And he has a beer in the other hand. And a cell phone under his jaw. And a newspaper on the steering wheel. and about 10 other people in the car and a few dogs and cats. and a gold fish on the dash.

I know you can't get away from these kinda people but this just speaks to another one of the reasons I want to buy a 6500 plus pound truck and trade in my 4500 pound truck. It might help me live through an encounter with one of these morans :)

It's already illegal in most states..... it's call distracted driving.

It applies to cell phones, CB mikes, tv, whatever is in the vehicle to distract the person who's supposed to be aimming the

2-ton plus missle down the highway.

Now if we could find some way to enforce the laws on the books... ... .

also applies to gun laws, huh
