I bought a truck about a week ago, and I really love it. :) It's a 1995, 2wd 2500, extended cab. It's got the 47RH transmission, and I'm a little stumped.

It has a PacBrake exhaust brake, and I can't tell if it's working or not. There's a switch under the dash for it, but no matter which way I flip the switch, it doesn't seem to affect braking performance.

Does anyone know how I can check the operation the exhaust brake while in the driveway with the hood up? I don't tow much, but it's nice to know if the brake is there, it's operational and I can use it.

Thanks

Eddie

my truck has one as well. when it is running you can hit the switch at idle and hear a difference... . i promise you if it is working you will hear the difference.

mine has hidden fuse behind the lower dash panel that has blown in the past. . might be a good place to start

ekroman,

It could be a couple of things. First, check your micro-switch. It's either down behind the gas pedal or out on the injector pump. I've had em both places. If it isn't actuating, your valve will not work. Second, up on your head by one of the valve covers there is a valve or switch or something where there are 3 medium rubber hoses on it, (one larger one from the vacuum generator and 2 smaller ones to the brake,) a ground and an electrical hookup. Check the ground and the electrical hook up to see if they are working. If they are, take off from the valve the 2 lines that are on the right side of the engine(looking forward), switch them around. Start the engine, now the valve should work all the time. If it doesn't then that valve the hoses hooks to is dirty and carboned up or the brake itself doesn't work. Clean that and see. Hope this helps.
