i am about to take ownership of a 01 HO 6 spd. i was wondering what is the holding limits of the stock clutch. what i am looking to do is add gauges and then possibly put a set of dd2 or edm equalviant in along with a boost module. i just want to know from the other bombers if the clutch would be up to the task. i won't be doing any towing. different air filter and exhaust are also being thought of too. i'd like to know what injectors i can run or a box. i don't want to tax the headgasket to much. i know the box will do that.

jerrethomas Most of what I have heard they say the limit on a clutch is around 100HP over stock. IMO I think its a little lower than that. I also have an 01 HO and with just the comp by itself it would slip the clutch pretty bad. If you can keep the box turned down low you should be ok but leaving the box turned down isn't as easy as it sounds. good luck

My stock clutch didn't slip with just the EZ. It didn't slip with just the DD2's and the EZ set in "boost module" mode (i. e. , the CANbus plug disconnected). It slipped running empty with the DD2's and EZ (CANbus connected) the first time my wife nailed the accelerator at 1800 RPM in 5th gear! :(

Hope that helps.

Blame it on the wife Rusty, that's good. :D It's my understanding the five speed clutches are stronger than the 6 speeds, my 5 has 92k on it and about 50k with the comp on the truck. I want to put a new clutch in there so I can do more to the truck but just haven't yet.

Mine with DD2's and COMP (used as an EZ) doesn't slip - seems some are better than others. I'm not sure that a fueling box is as hard on the headgasket as you think. Lots of guys running them without problems. Good luck.

Generally, it's excessive boost or propane that will take out an HO's head gasket because of excessive peak firing pressures. We tow a 13,500 lb 5th wheel with an EZ and DD2's and have never had a head gasket problem. There are lots of others that tow with the EZ/DD2 package with no problems.

It also depends on how hot your injection pump is. The hotter the more HP. My truck did a 244. 4 TOTAL STOCK:--) I have heard that there can be a 40HP varible between trucks

Some HO clutches are stronger or some are better drivers, I ran a Ez and rv275's for a year about 35k miles, at a dynoed 323hp any 742 tq then I added a comp drag to the rv's for a monthand a half at a dynoed 370hp 868tq with no slipps on the clutch, I put a OFE in because the BD3's were going in and that wouldn't hold:D

My guess is that there is more variation in dynos than injection pumps or clutches! :D LOL

Lots of variables to be sure...

Lots of things can be differant but Dave Smith took 4 new trucks same year same day on a dyno. I also asked cummins about this and they said that the injection pumps are in the bell curve some are higher and some are lower.

My 02 HO with a DDTTPM slips the clutch when I get on it. It has since the day it was put in. On the other hand, my dad's 01 with 275 RV injectors and an Edge Comp box holds the power just fine. I will probably go with the SBC soon and add some DD2's.

Mine held the EZ just fine, but when I added the 275's I could slip it at will if the rpm's were low. If you drive with the rpm's up your stock clutch will last longer than mine did... ..... 15 minutes :{ :{ I went with a South Bend! :D Good luck, Phil

it will hold ....

The stock clutch will hold the gages for sure :D

I started bombing my 2002 with over 90,000 miles, with an Edge EZ and the clutch slipped the first time I wanted to show off to a buddy punching the pedal in 5th gear running at 1,800rpm.

From what I read and what I have seen, it seems like each truck [clutch] is a little different and a lot depends on your driving style. Now if you don't tow anything you might be able to baby a slipping clutch and live with it for a while, but you should budget for it if you are looking to go over the 300HP mark.

Just my . 02!

Good luck.

Could you use a stock clutch from one of the NEW Cummins 600's trucks so you wouldn't have to go out and buy a $1000 clutch?
