Hope one o you can help with this issue, also hope non of you have it occur. I have a 96 with the NV 4500, worked over pump, plate, ht3b turbo, ceramic clutch. This is a one owner truck meaning that not many people can drive it. The throtte is extremely touchy and will start hopping violently when excelerating, the only way to stop it is slam on the throttle or let off completely and start over. I have more problems with it with a load than not but it does do this regardless. I have doubled up the throttle springs, repaired all the throttle linkage and can't seem to cure the issue. It also did this prior to the pump and and plate so I'm not sure what would cause this one. Thanks for any help.

My first thought would be a clutch issue. The ceramic is a no slip disc that can exagerate the differential twist issue. Mine is doing the same thing since going with the SBC OFE, but not as bad as you describe. I just bought a set of Cal Tracs that should take care of the problem. Haven't had time to install them yet though.

There is a TSB on that problem put the side of your foot against the hump and hold the throttle and it should quit the fix is replacement of thr gov arm from Cummins

Maybe I did not read your post correctly. If it is a sensitive throttle, which mine is if I remove one of the return springs, then I was offbase with my suggestion of wheel hop, axle twist. The TSB for this problem was done on mine a long time ago while it was under warranty. New lever and return springs were included.

It is a very sensative throttle, I can drive the truck and yes with the foot on the hump method. I've owned this truck now for 14 years and am fairly comfortable with it. It's pretty funny to watch others drive it though. I modified the pump and installed the new governor springs and such. When I purchased the truck I had a fairly large plate ground for it and blocked the waste gate, I've also installed a larger turbo (HT3B) good exhaust and Intake, injectors as well as a few other things. From day one it has been fairly sensative, I doubled up the return springs which helped. The one thing that I haven't done is replace the lever, I know it was looked at when we did the pump but not replaced. I'll take a look and probably order one to see if it fixes it. Fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things. Overall great truck though.
