I had the same problem so off to talk to the big guys who fix the big one. The answer I got is. The probe cannot burn off and go through the turbo if it mounted after the Turbo :) Good Luck
 
A probe also cant burn off and go through a turbo PRE turbo either. If the temp gets hot enough to melt a probe, your turbo would be destroyed anyhow (Most likley your engine would be toast too). I spent 3 years working on $70,000 turbos mounted in diesel locomotives that all had probes PRE turbo.
 
Pre turbo and a gage you must absolutly have. I figured that anybody that didn't have one would have to be a Ford or Chev owner. Right behind that has to be a trans temp.
