We've got the rattlesnakes here in Southern Missouri too. 20 years ago the rains would wash them out and they would sun on the roads. We would lock up and slide our tires over them and then back up and do a burn out on them. The timber rattlers would be short but as big around as your arm. Raised the Hood on one of our ten wheelers and one was coiled up on the air cleaner. another time we were cleaning shop and opened a tool box to find it full of little ones. we carried the whole toolbox out and threw it on the burnpile along with an employees coveralls that had a nest in them. Where do you get your pots for your hostas? We have a couple thousand mums and perrennials to repot out of liners and are out of pots. We used to get them out of Alabama and some Canadian Company TCI??? or somthing but I can't find where we got them anymore. haven't needed to order any of the thin black gallon?2 gallon in several years as people had been buying all we had in liners. All these rains and floods have been slowing the buying down. Rains what had your rattler in the hostas???

dseabaugh's story reminded me of an unusual one several years ago. After several weeks of heavy rain and flooding in So. Calif many surfers were reporting rattlesnakes trying to climb up on their surfboards out in the ocean. When you think about it there's not a heck of a lot you can do about it in that situation.

dseabaugh,

plant pots - call Hummert Intrnational. They are in St. Louis which I believe is not too far from you. 314-506-4500.

Don't know why this snake was in hosta bed except that maybe he wanted to be. We didn't talk much before or after he tried to "kiss" me. Heard today that a lady was bitten about a mile from here while she was trying to pick up a Copperhead barehanded.

One helper didn't come back to work after the snake. He really wasn't suited to this kind of work anyway. He liked A/C, background music, long lunches, lots of breaks, and sitting down while he attempted to look busy. He had a few other qualities that I will miss. If I could have found 2 more like him- I would have had all 3 stooges in my employ. :D :D

Thanks for the pot info! They are just an hour and a half away. Now I can use those pallets of potting soil. We used to go out ot Bollinger county when I was younger and turn over rocks in the summer to see how many copperheads were underneath. Stupid Stupid Boys. I'll tell one of my Emplyees about the rattlesnakes on the surfboards. He came from Florida and loves to surf. As for your help, had dozens like him. Don't miss any of them. Our Surfer Boy is a great young man though. Honest, works hard, polite, Will give you the shirt off his back. (Literally, One day One of our competitor's employees told him he really liked the shirt he had on : it had one of our suppliers logos on it:; and he just peeled it right off and gave it to him. told the guy he really wanted him to have it. asked me if it was oK. ) Boy took us to Key West Fl a couple weeks ago with his lady for the week and we watched him surf. Hang in there, you will find great help like him one day. :)

In my area there are very few rattlesnakes. But Copperheads are bout like fireants, grasshoppers. I don't like snakes so you know what happens. Many years ago somebody run over a chickensnake. We picked it up and put it on this fellows porch that I was to pick up in the morning to go to work. So I go by his house at 5,honk horn, porch light comes on,he opens door and starts to come out. We had coiled it up in front of his door so when he opened door he would step on it. And it you have ever steped on a snake you know its not a stick by that feel. He opens door and in the blink of an eye he is next to car holding his heart and breathing hard. I ask him whats wrong and he can't talk just points. He covered about 25 yds before you could blink you eye. :D

40 years ago my mother used to send us to school with black snakes and mice (she would corner the mice and suck them up with the vacuum) for show and tell till the teachers sent a note home that we wouldn't be allowed to do that any more.
