I finally got around to changing the rear wheel cylinders on my '96 to the 1-ton models, but when taking the springs off, one was really soft. It is the brownish orange one on the leading shoe; I was surprised it would bend at the hook part so easily. I used the regular brake tools, so it wasn't like I pried it off etc. I would expect these springs to have some temper in them, but it was like the end was made out of mild steel.

Nothing appeared over heated, in fact the rear brakes looked like they were just along for the ride. The machine marks in the drums were still there, so they haven't been doing much.

The trick for getting the drums off that is posted here in the TDR works great, and saved a bunch of time.
