Not really sure which forum to post this in. I bought a VDO pyro off of eBay a couple weeks ago. Works and all, but it came inside one of those black cups for mounting on top of the dashboard. I am planning on building a whole new dashboard for my rig (see my posts in the "Conversions" forum) so I want to mount this inside the dash panel. My question is: how does one get the guages back out of these things? I would prefer not to destroy the moutning pod, if possible, and I definitely don't want the guage itself getting damaged!

If anyone can tell me how to get it outta there without wrecking it, the pod will probably go up for grabs in the "Pay It Forward" forum afterwards (I see these sell new for $35 at TSTs website).

Thanks in advance!

The mounting cups that I have seen, and had, all have a screew in the back that holds the gage in. Usually there is a plastic bracket on the inside that is mounted to the two post, and this holds the gage in place. So on the very back of the gage look for a single screew. Good luck

It may just be snug fit in there... this is the reason I do not put the retainers behind the gauges when mounting them. it makes it more of a pain in the @ss to remove when needed. .

That's what it looks like to me too. There is no screw in the back that I can see. In fact, the only hole in the backside is the one that has the wires coming out of it for the light and the thermocouple. Wonder if it'll just pry out of there? Was going to try that before but decided against it due to phobias about ruining it. Wonder if I should just sell it and get another one? Maybe get an Isspro to match the tach I plan on using? Hmm.....

You might try using whatever kinda "push stick" will fit in the hole and just push it out. I use a wooden paint brush. Shine a light through the hole to be sure you don't push against any of the guage mechanicals.

I GOT IT OUT! Little persuasion with a screwdriver, then unplug the light and thermocouple form the back and pull the wires through.

Simple as that.

Anybody need a gauge cup? :D

If it's in good shape I'll take it! My truck came with a boost guage with no mounting cup - it's just resting on the hose that comes through the dash by the steering column  I'd like to put it in a mounting cup so it matches my tach.

If you still have it, let me know and I'll PM you my address.

Still got it! I posted an ad over in "Pay it Forward", but nobodies laid claim to it as of yet. Pay UPS Ground shipping and it's yours!
