2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission running wires down "A" pillar

02 Ram, getting ready to install triple guages on "A" pillar and wondering if I should leave old pillar in and if I do, , is it more difficult to run wires through? Suggestions from old hands welcomed.

Dump it. Put a screw near the top of the new one. You can get little plastic screw covers at a marine store or maybe Lowes. SNOKING

I left the old one in place and used a hole saw near the bottom so the wire would have a place to run. It might be easier to just leave the old one out and use the screws

I cut or sawed the tweeter down with a Dremel Tool making a nice opening for wire bundle to pass through. Grind as much as you want. I then sawed additional openings behind each gauge for wire connections, tightening and or adjusting.



Next clamped both pillars together and predrilled 6 holes for the joining with aluminum pop rivets. Isspro gauges are fairly long, but fit like a glove. TIP* Do not be afraid to trim the old plastic.



I removed the bottom panel under dash and removed the side fuse panel door. It was pretty tight passing wire thru at windshield. I bundled all the wires with electric tape about every 3"-4" and this made fishing the wires much easier. I mounted the Pyro and transmission sending units with plastic wire ties under the dash.



My 12volt lead for the gauge lights was tapped off the ashtray bulb light as I wanted to be able to dim the gauges.



I have had to take mine down a couple of times and it has not been much of a problem reattaching the gauge panel with the factory clips as they are pretty sturdy. My problem twice has been the fuel pressure isolator needing filled with additional anti-freeze.

I was not going to cut up my a pillar. may sell someday, want to keep my Dakota Digital gauges. Besides, it smacks of effort.



I bought the 3 pod replacement, and it fits nice without using it as a cover.



The a pillar feeds down to the fuse box with little effort, just use a stiffer wire (like #12 house wire) or put a bend on the gauge wire and fish it down.



EASY.



Used the add-a-circuit from littlefuse. Very cool. Got my money's worth there.



Quite happy, just need to drill the manifold when it warms up.
