Hello all...I have an itch to scratch and a little money to burn on my truck. I'm looking at getting either and AFE stage 2 Pro 5R mega Canon or the S&B intake with the oiled filter. I've seen tons of reviews and info on the AFE unit but almost nothing on the S&B for the 12v. Does anyone have any experience with them? I searched this forum's but didn't find anything in the 12v section.

The price difference with the deal I can get between the two is about $100. I don't know that I like the AFE design as it routes the intake tube over the turbo...but I do like the size. Is the AFE $100 better than the S&B?

I understand that I won't gain much power and that given my power goal of 350hp I don't need an intake....honestly I want the underhood bling and sound.

Any help is appreciated!

Better i dont know... I had a S&B on my 98 Ram and i loved it! Quality was good and turbo whistle was ,well, 'in the cab with you' :D

I dont need it, but i WANT it... I feel your pain! :-laf

Lol yeah sometimes you just have to scratch the itch.

Did you have any issues with it? Everyone seems to say they are good quality but there just isn't much out there about them. It seems like everyone goes with AFE but if I can save $100 I can put that cash into a GSK...or something.

Get the GSK($115) &/or a fueling plate($195), way more bling for the buck than a intake. Prices are ballpark figures.

I'll second that.

Intake systems have been proven to offer no benefit until you're over @400HP or more. Much better filtration from the stock air box or a BHAF, especially over the oiled filters.

If you just want something that looks cool and costs a bit of money, I have a very lightly used G-Force chip for the '94-'98 P-pumped trucks. I took it off a '95 a friend of mine bought when we did the GSK, injectors, and DV's on it. Very simple install, just wire it in to the intake air temp sensor. I researched it after removal and the website claims increased HP, increased MPG, and cleaner emissions. I'm sure he'd let go of it for $100.

I already have a fuel plate. I don't really know that a GSK is going to be much use to me as I already don't rev past 2300 RPM....not to mention I wouldn't feel comfortable installing it. I'd have a shop do it but the quote I got from the only local diesel shop to install it was for roughly $400, which is insane.

I was told the 2nd gen oem air box can warp, leaking PAST the filter allowing dirt into the eng... might be reason enough... ;)

The 2nd gen boxes don't warp but some aftermarket elements have poor seals that can bypass unfiltered air

I've read your old posts about the AFE Stage 2 with the PG7 probably 100 times and still can't decide whether to go S&B, AFE, or just stick with my BHAF. I plan on a max of 350-400hp...more than likely closer to 350.my truck only has 84k miles on it and if like to get it up to 400k before any major work needs doing

We dyno'd a truck with a bfe then swapped it out with an Afe and saw the difference in hp. Is the hp gain worth the cost??it has been for me.

I want power AND filtration. May e I'm reading, too much into it but it seems that with few exceptions everyone here think if you don't have a stock airbox or a BHAF your engine will be a dust filled truck weight.

Oh and I ordered a 3k GSK....for $88 shipped why not

I've had afe filters on both my trucks, many off road miles including Baja.No problems.Tdr rank and file as a rule are very conservative.I do run a pre-filter (sock).

Hmmm....you might just have me swayed. Did you ever get oil analysis done? What was your silicon level?

I have a AFE proguard 7 that has been installed for roughly 600k miles. My OA routinely comes back with 2-4 ppm silicon with 10k-16k mile oil changes (Fleetguard LF9028 filters). Virtually every high blowby post on this and other forums show a BHAF in the signature. Before you BHAF lovers jump up, I need to point out that BHAF is a generic term for a big paper filter. Just like oil filters, there are different quality levels, so I'm sure that not all BHAF users are dusting their engines, but a lot are.

I think I'm ordering a stage 2 PG7 kit as soon as I get my $50 summit bucks certificate

I have a stock air box drop-in Pro Guard 7 coming tomorrow, I hope to see if my turbo whistle is louder in the cab... I hope! :D
My Tater turbo gave me real nice exh whistle but intake is about the same.
