transmission questions

Satellite Radio also known as XM... . named product of the year by Fortune magazine. has anyone tried this or know the pros and cons. For about $10. 00 per mo you could have all the news and music in digital-quality you could want? Need some feedback

I haven't bought one, yet, but I've been listening to some of the channels over the 'net, to get a feel for what it sounds like.

XM Radio has some short samples that you can listen to.

Sirius has a PC client you can download and listen to any of the 160+ channels.

The biggest downside I see, is there isn't a standard for satellite radio -- one company will probably make it, and the others fail. Sorta like the VHS - Betamax videotape issue, anyone still have an old Betamax player? If XM doesn't get enough subscribers, they go bust, and you've got a nice $300 paperweight in the truck.

I have thought about XM for a while and will get it when the money works out. The thing that makes me get XM over sirus other than my current radio is compatible with xm and not sirrus is that Sony and Pioneer have fully invested in XM. Do you really think that Alpine, ETC will be able to compete with those to to the point that XM will go under? There is a lot of muscle behind the XM set up and it is up and running 100% with two satelites in the air right now.

The long and short of it is the radio out here sucks and comes in inconsistently outside of town. XM will hopefully keep me sane. My only reservation is that they do not guarentee a signal outside the lower 48 so a trip to AK might not have any coverages.

Its great

I have had it installed for a while in my truck. I have the pioneer system that works by using your fm radio. It works great i have only been in two spots that it didnt work and that was parked by tall buildings. The channels are great no matter what your taste is you will find it here. The best is being able to hear the nascar race on sunday tends to lead to some speeding when you get a little to into it.

xm is great

I bought my Pioneer System off of ebay for 185. 00 in Jan, and put it in myself. The antenna is expensive too, 79 bucks, but with all that and my 9. 99 a month I am very pleased.

I drive alot and the only place I have lost signal is in a tunnel. I have driven from the mouth of the mississippi to Dallas and from houston to destin, fl, and have never missed a beat.

I am not affiliated with them in any way, but I am thinking about buying some of their stock.

NOTE: Then antenna that I bought isthe dome one and I ran the wires in to the cab via the 3rd brake light, seems to work pretty good, no leaks yet.

Regards,

WD
