Thanks again for your imput. Re: nox sensor, I am at their mercy whether it is up or downstream, didn't see report but I want it fixed and my damn truck back.
And yes, I am going to do my own rear diff service. From what I can see and readm, it looks like Valvoline full syn 75w-90 will do the trick. The vids show using the same gasket,?! not sure if that is ok or I am worried over nothing. One guy didn't even drop the cover, just sucked out old gear oil somehow. To answer the ?? of how much dealer wanted here in good ole NJ .....drum role....$650 !! Seemed crazy when he told me, yes with a straight face lol, seems even crazier now!!
OH well, onward and upward. I am learning more all the time about these trucks. Still like mine

Jeezus! They only charge 450.00 per diff service here in Alaska........glad you are doing it yourself.

Thats the NY fees and taxes, everything is horrible expensive there.:D
Yup! Wanna talk tolls? The consumer pays. Big.

Thanks for link. Ocean County
The dealer I use in hazlet is brutal too. They wanted to charge me a diag fee if one complaint I had on my ‘14 wasn’t valid. And 2x in a row they left my coolant expansion tank low after opening my cooling system twice. I even have a mutual friend of the service writer there. The dealer I bought the 14 at was much worse than that!

Wayne, the big dealer here in Toms River is Lester Glenn. I can't do business with them anymore. A new Ram dealer is Pine Belt in Lakewood. That is where my truck is. Keep fingers crossed. I am going to do the service myself on rear diff. And I am going to find out if he misquoted price or are they that greedy. Just for personal info. It seems 3 qts of gear oil, and lets make it two hours of shop time, should be closera to 300., not 650. I will update

Ok is Lester Glenn who you started the thread here, and you just changed? Or is pine belt the issue the whole time?
I think I know a sales person at pine belt.

Buhler is who I use in hazlet, and, because I was strapped for time, and they were doing the radiator under warranty, I had them drop the rears and transfer case oils on my 14, and that was about 300 IIRC. Yea it’s not cheap.
I bought the 14 at Freehold Dodge. I couldn’t deal with that shop at all!

Four quarts of 75w85 at about $20/quart
1.5 hrs labor at $115/hour

I’m guessing around $252.50 Plus shop supplies charge.

Good guess. Diff service for both front and back diffs and the rear diff cover is extra capacity.

$285.85 out the door with taxes and shop charges in central illinois.

Lester Glenn is start of post. Pine Belt has not been a problem to date. They have many dealerships here in Ocean co. Chevy was their first. I realize it costs a lot of $$ these days to run these businesses but the costs are crazy in some cases. I could do without the fancy service areas with literally 20 people running around. And I realize when you do talk to a service rep, they don't know that much anymore.

Got the "Service Def System - See Dealer" for the first time yesterday. Will probably clear the code and see if it returns.

Many of the faults that trigger that message are hard codes and will not be able to be reset.

Any chance you recently refill with DEF?

Filled it with mopar def 500-600 miles ago bought at Rob Lambdins Chrysler. Still have the empty bottle and receipt

UPDATE......... ok, I got my truck back from dealer and all seems ok. They put a new downstream nox on it. Said def system is working fine. While they had it, they put a new axle seal on left side, said it was leaking. (I don't know). Couldn't say why I was getting a service active air box message every once in a while. It apparently left no codes. I currently have no cel on dash. Happy about that!! Remember I told them no about service rear diff. I am going to do that soon myself. My def gauge reads about 1/3 tank. I am picking up a box from Walmart today and frankly a little afraid to put it in. Some threads talk about filling tank and it will cause a fault code. I think I want to burn the remaining def down a little more before filling with fresh. All in all, 1200 bucks later, alll seems fine now.

I had two episodes with that before the SCR recall, with nothing really wrong, it thru the P207 code, supposedly thats bad DEF. They checked my DEF both times, and it was okay. Cleared the code ,and CEL, and sent me on my way. I do two things, one is I run until its almost empty, and then add only add 2.5 gals. No more issues.

With that sensor removed from the SCR recall, its tempting to try that decreased urea concentrate that TCDiesel has been promoting. It makes sense on the life of the system .

Cummins2014, if your truck is indeed a ‘14, and you said you had the ammonia sensor taken out, then yes I believe you could run the diluted DEF. it’s easy to get a refractometer and use it to read the urea concentration.

Thanks ,yes its a 2014 3500 Megacab with all but two of the 10 recalls done :D:eek: Still haven't done the drag link welding, and won't until they come up with something better, and the slipping out of park .

The T05 has been done, and I believe they removed that sensor on that SCR recall. If I remember reading on here , and on the recall about that sensor, there is a bundle of wire with nothing connected after they were finished. If indeed it would prolong the life of the DEF system ,why not run diluted DEF.

You should just find the point where it’s so diluted that you won’t get the job done, and you’ll get a check engine light. Also, the freezepoint has to be figured out. I would think it’d be closer to 32F if you take out the urea. What’s your climate?
