Check engine light after replacing batteries

You should just find the point where it’s so diluted that you won’t get the job done, and you’ll get a check engine light. Also, the freezepoint has to be figured out. I would think it’d be closer to 32F if you take out the urea. What’s your climate?

Its gets below freezing here in Utah. Mine never sets out in the cold in the winter, there are times in the garage when its in the teens outside, its well below freezing . It can get down in single digits in the Salt Lake valley ,but its rare, but it does get into the teens.

No CEL by far doesn't mean no Codes at all.
Just important stuff that needs immediate attention is shown to the operator aka. driver.
Everything else is shown to the guy at the service bay when he plugs it in.

I’d like to see a breakdown of how FCA determines what specific parts are covered or not covered under the Federal Emissions warranty. I would also like to see a class action against FCA for arbitrary denial on emissions warranty repairs.

ok I'm back. This has turned into some post! lol. I want opinions re: my rear axle seal that the dealer just did. Left rear, said they saw it was leaking when under truck for nox sensor. They replaced seal under an extended warranty I had minus 100 bucks that I had to pony up. Thats fine with me. Nothing was said about checking out vent hose etc. which I learned about online. I am a carpenter, not a mechanic. But I can read. It was already in the works, not known to them, that I was putting on new rear brakes. I did the fronts about 2 months ago and had the new pads and rotors for the rears in my garage when my truck went in for nox sensor, and codes, and that is when they did the seal. What I cant figure out is this. The rotors don't come off easy as I am sure you all know. It took kroil and a hammer to get them off. From the factory they all have those 4 retaining washers on the studs as they build the truck. Ok, question one, my pads and rotors were so bad a blind carpenter would recommend new brakes to the cust. Not a word from dealer rep. Two, I know how the retainer washers get pulled off with needle nose and are trash. Well, when I got to the left rear to do brakes, after I got truck back from dealer, the retainer washers were gone. But---the rotor could not have been pulled off because it rang like a bell when hit with a hammer. It took me about ten minutes to get it loose and off. I do not know if the rotor has to come off to do axle seal, someone pulled the 4 washers and then apparently said screw it I am not pulling rotor. Well, when I did, the parking brake area is completely drenched in gear oil. To me, this should have been addressed along with the seal. To not degrease everything and put on new shoes is just not right. I stopped at dealer this past thurs to talk to my rep and they do not feel the same. They think it is a separate job. Am I too fussy about this crap.?

IMO, it would have taken 5 minutes to clean it up, and Most shops charge for Rags, Towels , Shop materials. You were already dropping $100.00 on the repair, I would not return to that Dealership in the future.

This 4 washers are always gone after the first brake job, they are not needed and just there for manufacturing reasons.
Throw away parts.

Take it to the dealer. They will tell you if you are under the federal emissions warranty which you most likely are
It’s now 2020

My warranty book says that the warranty on your def pump expired when you hit 50,000 miles. That is the federal emissions warranty for the DEF system. A couple parts are covered to 80k, but nothing in the def system. If it is just a check engine light with no associated message in the cluster, I would just continue to drive it. My CEL is always on, but no cluster message, so I just drive it.

I just got this message also after adding DEF and driving a couple hundred miles. Drained some out and tested with tester from Geno's and DEF tests good.
Is there any device short of dealer's Wi Tec that can be used to trouble shoot pump and injector? I plan on pulling injector to see if it has build up that can be cleaned.

Larry, what code set? wiTECH is the proper tool for the job, but there may be aftermarket tools that can perform the functions, just not sure which one. Perhaps Walter can see if his scanner he had at May Madness last year can perform the injector test. But in the mean time at least pull the injector and clean it up with clear water.

AlfaOBD list the following tests available. Haven't tried them so can't speak to the operation.
DEF Reductant Doser Pump Override test
DEF Pressure Line Heater test
DEF Tank Heater test
DEF Reductant Doser Prime Override Test.

FCA really- R E A L L Y has to nail this down. Did they get their parts price and supply in line yet? Did the aftermarket step up yet? Weather it is a warranty or cash deal, are the trucks getting turned around? Last I heard, NO!
My experience is observing what I see on here, and my own work with 2 generations of SCR equipped Ford Super Duty’s. Yea Ford has issues- I’m in the midst of dealing with a series of ‘17 F550’s where they’re setting all kinds of NoX and dosing codes. It’s NEVER a DEF quality issue, but that’s part of the diagnosis.
Our fix is either they goto warranty and they’re back fixed in a few days, or I myself will do the TSB, which involves a complete vehicle reprogram (flash) and a drive cycle with occasionally a pump and heater and/or NoX sensor/ module replacement. Bottom line is that Ford has their act together with the fix and an affordable, ample supply of parts.

My point about the aftermarket parts situation.
Here’s Rock’s offering for a ‘13 Ford DEF pump. The OE Ford part is less than $300 and very available.

Here’s the same part availability for a Ram. Hey at least Cardone is offering to rebuild yours. Last I checked, that wasn’t available. The Spectra pump hasn’t been available since I started looking a long time ago.

Wayne, I understand what you are saving about the outrageous prices that FCA is demanding for parts and not much we can due about it at all, when my warranty ends I will buy another truck maybe not a Ram, and never will be a Ford that is nightmare vehicle.

I’m not advocating for Ford. I’m a MoPar guy, but what I see is FCA PSA or whatever controls Chrysler today is really making me sad. Chrysler has been in a constant slide since the “merger”. What I see in Ford is potential for what Ram can do to improve their product.
