Howdy All... Old subject for sure... ... but to remove the front shocks on an '02, 4x4, do you have to remove the shock tower? Thought I would ask the "experts" before wasteing my time and effort.
Yes, they are designed to be removed and allow the shock to pass thru the top of the spring. Passengers side is much more accessible then the drivers side. Make sure you do your home work on which shock you choose as the replacement, good luck.
Thanks Guys..... I thought that looked like it might be so. Y-Knot, I'm putting Bilstiens on the front. I put Rancho 9000's on the rear, because I tow a fiver and thought I could play with the adjustment with and without the weight.
As everone has said the drivers side is pain. Get the right extensions for your sock and it not to bad. The trick to tighten down the urethane inserts (Rancho 9000X's) is to put a wrench on the shat through the spring then run the top nut down with a rachet from above. Make sure you the latest revision from Rancho as the orginal are a little shorter.
I just put Bilstiens on all for corners and D25's on the front (leveling springs). I put an airlift system under the rear so I can pump up the rear with weight. Without a load I drive with it at 5-10 psi. You can pump it up (in the cab) to 100 psi with a load. Very happy with the system and with the new ride.
