when you adjust the settings do you have to load a new sw level to get the settings to be enabled? I have changed just the settings but there is no difference between them on 1 or maxed out?

Others will say no but on my truck I have to re-load the SW completely for the adjustments to change.

Hummmm, maybe that's why I don't feel a big change when I change sadjustment settings. Are you saying that, say I run #9 & want to change torque or timing, that I need to change it to another Sw# then change it back to #9?

Yes, after changing the torque, timing, etc options, you need to download the software again. But if i remember correctly, you can just reload SW#9 without loading a different one first. If you dont reload the SW, the new timing, tq options are still only in the Smarty and not updated into the truck yet.

By the way, Im really liking SW1 -132 (tq=1, timing=3 dur=2). Smooth response, no smoke problem, good egt & mpg, and she still pulls hard when you want. - Excellent!

Yes that is correct.

You likely missed this post DH. Big letters and all!!!

NoSeeUm when I turn the duration up high in my truck, the truck seems sluggish. I think we all have alot of testing to do. But for DD I like SW3,TQ6,TM3,D0. TST Off.

I tested this myself, I really did not find it to be true or false. I am not sure the effect that duration has as it is so over shadowed by any torque adjsutment.

One thing I did find that I am now 100% certain of:

This is correct.....

You have to re-load the software for it to make changes in the ECM.
John Cameron, is the MAN!!!!:)

This is wrong... .

I do not think you have to reload sw9, all you do is plug in the smarty and go to adjust options. From their you can quickly make option changes and it writes in about 3 sec. then your done.
Sounds good, but no cigar... .

Last night I changed TM from 3 to 6 by "Adjust Options" only. The update took about 3 seconds and I could definately feel a difference in how the engine performed.
Must have been a placebo effect...

Last night I decided to experiment a little. With the engine still running I changed from D6 to D2 and also changed T2 to T5. I did this change with the engine still running and it seemed to work fine. Basically no different than having the engine off and the key on.
Ah, at last fully decieved... .

I went one step further and tryed it while driving down the road, no problems here
Errr, bad idea says Bob W. :{

I now think that the Smarty loads the options only into only its own memory not the trucks ECM memory when the message something like "loaded options into memory" is displayed, after the 3 second delay. These options are then loaded into the ECM when it does a regular Catcher SW update.

I had a thought on the duration setting. Those of us that run a Blue Chip FMS, FMSP, Or Redline have a setting (Set from BC) that can be altered to specific VP pumps that also control duration when the box is fueling.

Can the smarty AND the FMS compound duration OR is it the higher one wins kind of situation.

I noticed that in "Drag Mode" I am seeing a less aggressive "Lazy" fueling thing and was wondering if hat may have something to do with it?

Alright, while TMTT is waiting for a response on his sort of question. .

O. K been a few months now ... ... Anyone? Can you burn up a metering valve with too much duration?

I doubt you can harm the by pass valve or it's solenoid, with duration. I'd be more conserned with getting too late in the combustion stroke.

Hey guys i know its been awhile but i just recently got a 2000 ram 2500 5spd 4x4 got the smarty so3 airdog100 fuel and air sep exhaust and i take pretty much just my dd with occasional towing have yall figured out a good setting besides sw1 to get better fuel milage i get about 18 out of it on sw1 and ive read through a bit of the thread and wondering if someone might be able to help me out

I use SW5, TQ management maxed, timing/duration at 2.

Of course, fuel mileage is based largely on ones ability to control the irresistible itch of the right foot :-laf

Im pretty good bout my foot what do u get hand calculated if u dont mind me asking

What do you do if you are using MAC computers?

If you can run Windows in a VM (Parallels, etc.) or dual-boot Windows (boot camp...) *AND* get a USB passthrough to work, I suspect you can get the Smarty Update to work. If any of this sounds like Greek, talk to the teenager next door & buy them a pizza to update your Smarty.

I love my smarty for my 2001. I used it on 5 most of the time. I just took the truck in for an auto trans. upgrade. I figured WTF. set it on 9 for the ride there. WOW. I like it.
I do have a question. I thought I remembered reading that I could use it to make my truck have a high idle. Is this possible?

Simply uploading any of the Smarty software to my 99's ECM enabled both the cold weather high idle and 3cyl idle features. Has to be down close to freezing for the cold weather high idle, and another 20 degrees colder for the 3cyl idle.
