Here is where I'm confused..... You buy the 2 harnesses from LMC. 1 harness powers the low beams and 1 powers the high beams... so each harness has enuf wire to go across the truck to the other light ?

Correct. They are just long enough to run them along the top of the radiator with the battery cable. I would have liked them to be a few inches longer, but they are long enough...

Seriously? Each of my SUV harness powers one headlight. Each harness plugs into the headlight bulb plug and each wire (high beam and low beam) triggers one of the relays.

When your low beams are on, how many bulbs are on?
Craig

Craig, are you saying that each of your harnesses are just stuffed behind the on one side or the other, and do not cross over side to side?

interesting. this is what i originally thought on how they were supposed to go. but then, when trying to figure out why the LMC harnesses are different P/N (my initial observations in Post #85 above), i thought i found the reason, and that is the wiring on the 9004 and 9007 bulbs are different, matching my harness difference. this, if true, would then suggest that the harnesses get installed like i currently have them - where one harness fires the 9004s, and the other fires the 9007s, necessitating that they have to cross over side to side. it seemed to make sense, given how long the harness are. but then again, my light logic doesn't seem quite right either.

i'm wondering if I really only need two of the same P/N and hook it up like yours? i may have spring for another $40 and try it.

You could always just get the pin outs for the 9007 and 9004 bulbs and just switch the wires to the correct pin opening in the plug.
If you need assistance, let me know.

Drag Racer, did you ever figure this out? I'm experiencing the same problem you site in thread #85.

I'm curious also, if you experienced (are experiencing) any extensive power draw while the lights are on. I did not have a power draw issue when using the SUV harness. Now that I'm using the LMC harnesses, headlight seem to draw my power down. Mind you I haven't ruled out a week alternator, but it seems strange that I have yet to get the LMC harness to work correctly and I have what appears to be excessive draw.

Here is where I am at right now. I was going to order another 9505 harness but have not yet. I decided to buy the Daniel Stern kit (has not arrived yet) and am thinking I may rewire per his instructions so the lights work like the OEM Sport lights do. I think my LMC's are installed correctly as best as I can tell, and they just change the light logic to fire more of the filaments than OEM - this makes me a little nervous of having too bright of lights, where I would have to re-do it at a future date anyway. As far as power draw, yes, the lights w/ LMC harnesses draw a lot of juice, but you have like 6+ out the 8 filaments on. When I tested mine, I had my battery charger on... went from trickle charge to like 20 amps when I flipped the lights on

So you never resolved the issue related to switching to high beams and having to reset the relays "manually"?

FYI the box the LMC harness come in do indicate the bulb they are suppose to be plugged into. So you were correct in your installation based on that.

Have you actually contacted Dan Stern? I've sent emails and never get a response. MY NYS vehicle inspection is due to expire this month. I need to find solutions soon (right now, I just run with low beams).

No, not as of now.

Yes. He responded the same day to my e-mail inquiry about purchasing his kit, I made payment, and now waiting for a box to show up.

Drag racer, was the truck running when you turned the lights on. When the engine is running, the alternator (136 amps I believe) has more than enough extra to power all 8 filaments. Many people use the Brite box that when on high burns all 8, and have had no problems. I have mine so that four are burning on low, and four are burning on high. Not sure how the sport lights work, but I believe they use the outboards on low, and the inboards on high. With the setup I have, it's not been a problem.

LMC Harness

The oem sports should power up 4 on hi beam 2 on low beam

I just did the sport headlight change with the LMC harness. I hooked them up and agree each harness goes from one side to the other. On low beam all four lights are lighted. When I go to high beams the high beam filaments on the inside bulbs light and the low beams on all four bulbs look to be lighted. Hard to tell they are so bright. The LMC harnesses seem to work quite well. I did add two fuses to each harness as there are none with the harnesses. I need to do a slight headlight alignment but a great change!

CPH, that is how it worked on my 99 as well. All four bulbs on low lit up. I did it with the suvlights harness, I guess they are out of business? It had a fuse with the harness, kinda pricey, but well made. On my 01 there are halo lights installed, not as bright as the sport lights, but I cant justify replacing them yet since they are not cloudy and look good. I think Genos would be wise to put together a kit that has everything you need to do this conversion in a package deal as popular as this seems.

I also have replaced my OEM '02 headlights with sport-lights - and since the OEM tail lights were also marginal, also replaced them with better "Sport-light" types that provide better visibility, especially better backup lights:

My headlights are also set up so the low beams stay lit when the high beams are on, and the lower "driving lights" are on when high beams are off, but low beams on - works great out in this country where deer or elk come in suddenly from the sides of the road on to the roadway - the Sport-lights are provided with reflectors inside that focus lots of light 90 degrees out to the sides. I made up my own wiring harness with 10 ga. wire, direct to the batteries, and the lights are activated by relays controlled by the headlight switch, which now sees only minimal relay coil current, not the full headlight current draw...
