Both my Moms and mine do it only if the fan clutch is engaged upon shut down regardless of idle time.

When my fan clutch went south on me it stayed ingaged all the time:mad: and upon shut down it would chirp every time. Replaced the fan clutch and it only does it some times, I actually miss it when it does'nt do it:confused:

My '01 5speed does it just about all the time when the A/C is on when the truck is shut off. It does it more frequently in the heat. I believe it's probably doing it when the A/C clutch is engaged which would explain why it does it more frequently when it's hot (in Phoenix)... when it's hot, and the A/C is on, the clutch is probably engaged so it can keep up with the outside temperature.

The chirp seems to be the engine stopping faster than all the accessories. Nothing to worry about and I think it's probably coincidence the whole auto vs. manual observation.

how did this happen?

Okay,

I haven't been by here in a while.....

I posted this poll LAST YEAR at this time! How did it come back??

JGabl.

BTW... ... . It STILL does it!!:D

got it!

The fan. Whether or not it is engaged depends on the condition of the fan clutch and how much heat is present.

Autos always have a bit more heat up front from the transmission cooler. So they're more likely to have the fan engaged.

My A/C has been on for 2200 miles and I've still only heard mine chirp twice.

The poll came back up because somebody found it and replied. The latest post pops to the top-then folks see it and start re-hashing all over again. Ain't that snazzy?;)

Next survey question should be: does is happen more with lights on/off? A/C cycled in or out? Hypothesis is rapid engine stall while accessory cores continue spin - so expected results would be <less> with either accessory under load... 'Course a gatorback belt seems to end the whole thing, IMHO.
