Almost no activity on the towing forum.

Went to an auction in Arkansas that had some RV repos. Bought 2 travel trailers. I thought about towing both but I would have been about 5 ft. over length. Sooooo..... I thought I would buy a cheap truck to tow the little one home. I bought a 94 Pherd F150 XLT SC 4X4 V-8 Auto. I hooked on to this little "Travel-Lite" 19' trailer and headed home. I ran 96 miles and took on 13 gallons. I then remembered why I drive a diesel!!! My wife was behind me pulling a 30' TT and getting twice the fuel mileage in our Cummins. I don't think the thing got over 10 mpg all the way home... ... ... ... ... . and, no power. Every hill I hit, it just fell on it's face.

Thats exactly why I switched to a diesel. And have loved it ever since!:D My old Ford got 6-8 MPG when towing and didn't have any power. Had to go to second on hills and only did about 35 MPH. My old Dodge will still be doing the same speed at the top as it did at the bottom and gets better mileage towing than the Ford got empty!

Forgot to mention, the Ford had a gas 5. 8 liter

Had me one of them Ferd F150 5. 8L , and oh boy what a difference going to a Diesel. The Ford was a nice truck as long as you didnt expect it to do any work. Never woulda bought anything but a Ford but Cummins made the descision (sp) for me and I am pleased.

My son-in-law's dad got a real deal on a beautiful Ford truck a couple of years ago. He was real proud of it. THEN he towed his trailer up in the hills for a fishing weekend. Now the thing just sits and he drives his Chrysler. No more bragging since he got his gas bill for that trip.

This truck has the 5. 8. As soon as the auction near me has it's next sale, it's going AWAY! But I really thought that it would be a breeze to pull that little lite weight camper. (about 2400#). Not so. I had to let up on it to get it to go in OD!! And, MDW, I repent! please put the rope away... ... . it's Christmas... ...
