Anyone going to the BSOT show in Woodland, CA in June?

I had the opportunity to fire a Walthar P22 with a TAC 65 supressor on it this weekend and it was amazing! You could only here the slide go back and forth (other than the bullet hitting the target). This was shooting regular 22 long rifle ammo.

I was so impressed I'm ordering one for myself. I have to start all the paperwork for the suppressor which will probably take 2 months to get approved (not to mention the $200 tax). What BS...

Anyways, has anyone had any other experience shooting a suppressed firearm?

I'd like to know how quiet a . 45 handgun can be or a even a . 223? I imagine the . 223 can't be silenced as the bullet would still be supersonic as it leaves the suppressor and still produce the crack since its faster than the speed of sound?

The other weapons I got to use were equally impressive... full auto UZI's, MP5's, etc:D And to think I showed up too late, they had already put the big guns away:eek:

Pretty much, yep.

Although if you use a subsonic round, then you do not have the "crack".

As to the noise level, the bigger guns will make some noise, but it is much reduced.

Yeah, the supressed full auto stuff is a hoot. Going back to see a pal in TN this fall to play, most fun toys are verboten in my state. But America is only driving distance and the Cummins loves long highway trips. :D

heres one that will get your attention a 50 bmg with a can, it belongs to will the guy i do gun work a couple nights a week for, in person outside it sounds like a 410 shotgun with less crack and is very shootable without ear protection, i don't have any shots of me shooting it though

i took this pic on it's first day of firing

The . 223 can be silenced, though its not as quit as the . 22 LR. There were some guys in Iraq that had them issued due to our mission. SureFire(flashlight company) actually makes one. Not sure who else.

I've got a H&K Tactical 45 just begging for a suppressor already. I've read about the surefire suppressor before, here's an article on it. linky

JFlagg, thanks for your service to our country. I recently read your post about your confirmed kill at 498 yds...

GOT-Torque, I just finished reading your link, that is a very educational write up. I consider myself a smart gun enthusiast, but I learned quit a bit from that read, Thanks. All I have to do now is fill out alot of paperwork and save several hundred bucks..... :-laf

Thats the setup I want. Wish my HK 45 USP compact was a full frame tactical model. Maybe its time to have both. I have been wondering about the noise from a silenced 45. No one I know has one.

My buddy has the P22 with a silencer on it. I've shot it quite a bit. What a hootOo. I'm thinking I need to get that paperwork taken care of this spring.

Great link though, wonder what those will cost?

I'm filling out my paperwork now. I have an FFL so getting the gun itself is easy. Too easy actually, if I find a gun I like, it shows up at the doorstep the next day in a nice brown box:D I live relatively close to my local gun distributor. It's hard on the wallet though:eek:

But for the class III stuff I've got to go through the same paperwork and $200 tax that everyone else does.

A guy at the shooting range just bought a silencer for his . 45 pistol. He said it was a piece of cake to get the permit. He just went down to his town hall, said he wanted one & they gave hime the paperwork. The suppressor was a lot more expensive than I thought. $500 + $200 (for a federal tax?) = $700.

He tired it in his backyard. Says it's no louder than a BB gun. Sounded neat the way he was talking about it.

I have shot a . 45 with a well shot out (not as effective as new) suppressor and it had roughly the sound of hands clapping. could hear the bullets hitting the trees over the sound of discharge. It was also shot through a select fire (auto) mac so the open bolt design isnt the best for keeping it quiet. I also have a suppressed Bull barrell . 22 and shooting Aguilla(sp?) powderless rounds sound like a BB gun unsuppressed but like a finger snap if suppressed. These are for varmint hunting in close quarters and have tiny bullets and only a primer to discharge. got a good group a 30ft though. They dont have enough power to cycle the bolt so have to hand extract/load between shots but was scary how quiet they were. regular (CCI) . 22 was half as loud as my pellet gun. . 223 suppressed was a little louder than my pellet rifle through an AR-15. I have worked with Frank and he was very helpful. He is the designer/owner of Elite Tactical and I am just a happy customer. Tell him Wayne Libby sent ya for what it might be worth. (615) 668-5345. He is at most of the Nashville area gun shows. His . 22 silencer is extremely nice and must be seen to be appreciated.

not sure what he'd sell the can for, as he's the one who designed and built it he just has time and materials in it, i think he's selling the whole gun package for $3500, 5 shot bolt action ar based sledgehammer

WDixon27,

Almost afraid to ask. How much $$ was the surpressor for the . 50 cal?

Well between myself and some friends I placed an order today for six (6) Walther P22's. I'll have them by tomorrow. Too bad buying a suppressor doesn't work this way...

I went and shot some cans a couple days ago. Needless to say, I now have 4 on order:) Never really wanted one until I saw how fun they were.

That being said and this thread does have some NFA dealings. I cant wait to finish my M79.

Since you already have the FFL, I'd go ahead and pay the SOT and get allowed for dealing in NFA. Sure opens up the dorr for much cheaper options in fun toys.

Yeah I can see that, NFA stuff definately isnt cheap to get into by any means.

It's one thing I'd like to look into in the future. But right now all Im doing is buying the expensive transferrable stuff. While all my friends get to play with their $600 M16s:{

if ya got the paperwork to own full auto it's cheaper to build one for personal use and destroy it when you are done or give up the license, my buddy with the mufflered 50 bmg just cut up and sold his two mg-42s, cut the receivers into 4 pieces and sold them and all of the goodies to a guy that was going to weld them back together, that's how will got them, in chunks, played with them a couple years and moved on (got his 1919 browning a twin brother)

couple shots of the mg-42s on the rolling toy/advertisement i built him out of a f150

Yeah having a manufacture license on top of the SOT is the only way to go for cheap machineguns. I have buddies making stuff all the time. Even then, just having a dealer license opens up the option to purchase post sample guns and even moderately cheap pre may samples.

If I had the tools and capacity to build quality guns. I'd have all the $600 1919s, MG42s and all the other cheap stamp/side plated guns.

But like I said, right now Im stuck with the expensive transferrables. The stuff is fun though...
