I've been running Valvoline premium blue 15w-40 conventional from day one in my 2016 with no issues. I live in Georgia so no need for the 5w-40.

I see a few people saying they run full synthetic 15w-40, what brand are you using? The only ones I can find in that weight are "blends" unless I look at some of the "guccci" high $ oils (amsoil etc)? Is there full synthetic 15W-40 in a more common brand?

.

I use Amsoil DME, not on the shelf common most places but easy enough to order. You shouldn’t have to pay full price for it, lots of ways to get it cheaper.

With Shell recently releasing Rotella T6 15w-40 that will likely be the easiest to find in a retail store.

Call it what you want but AMZ/OIL is a SUPERIOR product. Why because the company is from Superior Wisconsin. :D

Is there a huge difference between Amsoil ADP vs DME? Also opinion with Rotella T6 15/40 vs Amsoil ADP (seem apples to apples comparison.?.) I’m thinking of purchasing a synthetic 15/40 next oil change to try. Currently I use is Delo 400 SDE 15/40 conventional. Which is good oil.

Just sent in an order. Shop around folks, you can buy synthetic for less than conventional at times.

Yes ADP and T6 are the closest in terms of apples to apples. ADP is their standard synthetic and doesn't have quite the additive package that DME does. It mostly deals with oil longevity, ADP is OEM interval rated and DME is 12 month rated. Neither are a bad oil, nor is T6 or Delo 400.

I like DME for the 12 month rating.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like any info on ordering amsoil.

Thanks for the info! I’ve been a Amsoil preferred since ‘08 and used some in my ‘05 & ‘09, but been awhile and all the changes and options now with Amsoil.

Any oil will go 12 month without issue. Mileage is what breaks it down.

Not always. Oil starts breaking down as soon as it's used. Time does kill oil, and I've done enough UOA's over the years to see depleted oils with minimal miles on them.

Many oils will likely go longer than OEM intervals, but very few state they can and that's one of the reasons I like DME.

It boils down to what one is comfortable with... I don't disagree that the OME OCI should have probably switched to 12 months a long time ago, but it didn't.

Friends,

I received the oil analysis back on my 2017 Ram 5500 19970 on the clock, 2nd oil change with about 10K miles on the last change, Mobil 1 5w40, FG Stratapore. I put about 10K miles on the factory oil fill and filter, but forgot I had oil sample kits. So thiHappy to hear any comments from the gallery. Truck duty cycle is between 80 and 90% heavy towing (~34KLbs GCW), the rest is to keep er running and running around while out on the road; (Gary, did I do OK approximating duty cycle?)

Anyhoo, appreciation the input.

Amazon has t6 15w 40 for $95 (3 gallons).

However, i think (not 100% positive) that t6 is a type III oil (highly refined conventional) and all Amsoil oils are type IV. Synthetic made from conventional oil stock. For about the same price, i would buy the Amsoil??????

most of amsoil products are still type III oils. just better marketing and a few product lines have a better add package for extended oil use. they still buy their base stock form one of the top three suppliers.

T6 is $22 a gallon at Wal Mart ($66 for 3 and I have seen it cheaper) and I can drive right down and pick it up when ever I want.

I have always had my iron less than 15 ppm. The longest run though is 8155 miles.

They offer some Group III oils, but most are Group IV.

That MOPAR filter shown above is NOT a StrataPore. Couple bucks more StrataPore , Donaldson Blue or re branded AMZ/OIL filters are far superior.
