Ever since I fixed my boost and power issue with the #10 plate, I have noticed that it takes a few more seconds of cranking to start the engine. It used to start with maybe a maximum of 1-2 seconds of cranking, and now it takes like about 3-5 seconds and then it starts. I have checked my fuel shutdown solenoid and it is operating fine, I have even manually pulled it up before I start the engine, with the ignition on to see if maybe it wasn't pulling the lever up quickly enough during cranking but it still took just as long to start.

The only nmods done to it recently are the 3K GSK, #10 plate about . 040" forward and a bit of AFC tuning. Anyone have any similar issues that they could address a fix for me??

This is usually caused by the idle being too low. Either increase the idle or give it a little pedal to start.

Well, actually, the idle is not too low. It is idleing at just over 900 RPMs, which is higher than before I installed the GSK and #10 plate.

Joe,

Starting will take a little longer with a install of a GSK specially if you have turned the retainer nuts down a click or more farther than stock settings.

Will this increased cranking decrease the life of the starter any? It is still my original starter, but I would think that this extra cranking will shorten the life of it some.

BTW, thanks for the advice Mark and Joe. :D

When starting the truck, the rocker does slide forward and tap the torque plate near the bottom. I know after the install of some plates or the repositioning of some plates, the truck may start a little harder, however I don't think this is a problem with the #10 and Mark didn't mention it so I assume it is not a problem. Also this is usually more apparent in cold weather.

Yeah, but I am out here in So. Cal. and its just starting to get hot now, but at night it is maybe getting down to 55*F if even that. The So. Cal heat season is coming upon me and I am SOOOOOO not ready for it. Winter spoils me.

BTW, I usually run my block heater at night through out the winter even though it only gets down to maybe 35*,. but it makes the morning warm up mice and short and IMO it is easier on the engine starting it with warm coolant rather than cold coolant. But haven't used it this week since it is getting hot during the day and only 60 or so at night.
