The Silencer Ring Saga Continues
Hey guys... I'm a little terrified, and need to see if my fears are justified or if I'm freaking for nothing. I pried twisted and pulled on my silencer ring for hours, and never got it to budge. I was at a friends house last night, and I was lamenting my situation. yada yada, I ended up pulling it in the shop, two and a half hours, and a case of beer later, we got it out.
NOW... after removal, (NOTE: I can't believe this happened. . and I REALLLY can't believe I allowed it. )(also, let me say that this guy is an ASE, and has been turning wrenches on gasser hotrods all his life. He has ALWAYS done unbelieveable quality work on my trucks... albeit this one's a little different. ) He's a very close friend, and I'd trust him with my life...
so, after the ring pops out, he has gouged a few parts of the turbo housing... to clear that up, he used an air tool of some sort. kind of like a straight grinder with "fan" type sandpaper assembley... I balked, but he claimed not to worry... the gouges did get smoothed out, but the metallic dust particles that were created I"M SURE got into the turbo. . all around the impeller and what not... He then used high pressure air to blow out any remaining particles from the turbo...
Typing this, and reading it just really makes me sick... what type of damage did I do to my engine? Is the engine gonna be destroyed?
As always, thanks for the help!
