I've been following this thread and another.

Seems mixed results with these pumps.

Some have reported fine. . a few others problems just as RHulette has.

I have yet to replace mine with one of my campaign pumps.

The factory one / the 1st one was replaced under warranty at 25K , 2nd one is at ~ 58K now and it's hovering at 8-10lbs of pressure, down from 13-14 from the last few years.

I bought 4 of the campaign pumps.

I have the Geno's little brother kit of the Big line kit sitting there with the pumps.

Just haven't had the time to do the work.

I hope others post their Good and Bad results with these pumps...

Keep 'em coming guys. . lets hear it. .

Has anyone tried installing the additional hardware with the kit for the fuel pressure shut off? I was just wondering if it would work on our trucks.

I think 'cause of ECM differences, it wont work as intended. I contemplated using the pressure switch/banjo bolt for an idiot light, but my bigline kit eliminated that fitting. So my x-tra parts are sitting on the shelf for now. Ill find something to use it for... ...

I just picked up 3 lift pumps today from the Cummins dealer. $64 plus tax each. They have a few more.

As for that pump being same/different, I am on the factory pump with 162,000 miles, so I have faith in them. I bought a spare since it was cheap and "just in case". Only 2 I bought were for TDR members.

Disregard my previous excited post - instead - I AM SCREWED.

Local dealer had to get the pumps from the Denver Cummins distributor. They made him call me back and ask what veihicle it was for. I gave them the school bus serial number. I was supposed to pick the pumps up this morning in Longmont but instead, he said I had to take my old pump down to the Denver center and show it to them, and then they would sell me the kit over the counter.

I have called numerous other Cummins dealers referenced on this thread, and as soon as they find out I need them to ship the pump to Colorado, they say, "Sorry, we're not allowed to do that because you're in another store's territory".

I have a friend who works on OTR trucks, and when he called, he was told the 4090046 kit had been "replaced", and it's now $165.

So unless one of you in one of the lucky "territories" is willing to procure and ship a couple to me, I'm screwed.

OK, I understand the importance of having a spare. One thing id still like to know is : Is the in tank pump warranty deal good enough ? Im still under 100k on my 02' . Hmm, what to do. Thanks all--Proflow.

Just called Cummins West in Sacramento, they say they have 5 in stock and quoted me a price of $64. 90, even after I told them it was for a 2001 dodge Ram. Guess I'll find out when I go down there to pick a couple up. Part # 4090046

I think not, and others I believe have echoed the same feelings.

There have been bad pumps out of the box, at the dealer, even for the in tank retrofit (from what I read on the forum here).

So which would you rather fix on the road?

A pump in the tank where you have to drop the tank.

OR

A pump mounted on your frame rail, looking you right in the face.

Uhhmmm???? ;)

Don don't do it. I have a few pumps here if you need (want) one.

Nate, What Cummins dealer did you go through and will they ship? I've got a spare but at $64. 00... ...

For those folks wondering about the in-tank pump plus the the carter mounted on the frame. . that's what I'm running and so far it's working good. I had a few glitches with my install but it now holds a steady 15psi or so and won't get pulled down when you step on it.

I've checked to see if the system would still pump with either pump dead and it will. The in-tank will push fuel with the Carter un-plugged and the Carter will pull fuel through the in-tank. Nice to know that one dead pump won't kill you while on the road.

the part that makes me mad is where it reads

" NOTE: ISB engines built between 1997 and 2002 that are in applications other than school bus, transit bus or emergency vehicles do NOT qualify for this campaign or customer assurance plan.

in other words @#$%! You 97-02 CTD owners you are SOL #@$%! #@$%!

Thanks again to everyone who found out about this and posted about it there is no better example of what TDR is all about!!!!!

Yep... . think we now know the VP44/LP was a stop gap measure until Cummins got the common rail system going in 2003. We're on our own on this so we might as well figure out how to keep it alive.

If you're still under warranty my advice would be to let DC give you a free VP44 along with the in-tank pump. The latest VP seems to be better than OEM but the in-tank pump will need help (or just replaced). There are options!

Please don't waste your hard earned money on these campaign pumps! They're absolutely no different from the original pumps. I thought they were the steal of a lifetime and bought 2 for $65. 00 each. My first pump lasted 2 months. It started out fine - 15 psi all the time. One day on my way home from work, I hear this funny noise coming from the pump (I put the Vulcan reloc kit on, so the pump is basically under the cab). The FP gauge read a flaky 8-10 psi . I kept the pump on for another 2 weeks until it starting nosing down to 5 psi. I replaced it with the other campaign pump. That piece of sh** lasted exactly 4 weeks before it started doing the same thing. I am disgusted with these pumps - if I wasn't so trusting, I would have done what the smart guys are doing and put in a Fass pump. As soon as I convince my wife and get some cash up, I'm going to do what I should have done a year ago and buy the Fass.

You might want to check your tank first to see if it's gunked up. Repeated failures like that always raise a red flag for me. Kind of like repeatedly blowing a fuse. It's not the cheap a** fuses... there's a short in the system.

I'm not saying these LP's are the best but when they're failing within weeks of each other you could have another problem.

I can't remeber the date I installed my LP and Vulcan relocation kit, but it is working perfectly holding near 15psi at idle and dropping to 11-12psi at WOT uphill with my 10000 LB 5th wheel in tow. (no mods on the engine other than the AFE and 4" exhaust) The only thing I can say for certain is you can definately hear the LP working since the relocation. I would not hesitate to do the LP relocation again as I don't think it hurts a thing to get it off the hot engine and away from the vibration. All this is just my humble opinion.

mine has around 25k miles on it and it's running great! I have done the vulcan relocation kit and done some wiring to make the pump always on when the key is turned on, not just for 30 seconds. Also, I wired a manual switch to my relay so I can turn the pump on to prime the system aftre filter changes.

$70.00 pump

Hi all, Just got my pump today 10-11-06 $66. 33 plus tax and before I start this is the electric hook up the same? In one of the first post someone said he had the pigtail for the pump,do I need this,I'm going back in the same spot as the original pump. Thanks Don

Look at the pump on your truck. If it looks as if it has the same connector on the body, your fine. If not, you need it.

You can get it cheap enough here:

http://www.hoeslidiesel.com/specials.htm

Just scroll down a little bit and and he has them listed.

I'm sure you can call to double check
